I've been a bit obsessed with watching actors and actresses bios from the Golden age of Hollywood. Of course many actresses are femme fatales. Who did it best in your opinion ?

Barbara Stanwyck's turn in Double Indemnity has been aped and imitated so many times she could practically be considered the prototype.

Thanks mgmarshall, Kinda hard to think of Barbara Stanwyck that way, because I'm so use to seeing her as an older actor in The Big Valley. I'll look for a youtube clip. Cheers:

I just ordered the Blu-ray and haven't watched it yet, but I have high hopes for Ann Savage in Detour.

Lizabeth Scott in Too Late For Tears (1949)Scott plays an Is She Or Isn’t She a femme fatale in Dead Reckoning (1947). You have to wait until the end to find out.

Dianne Foster in Drive A Crooked Road was a memorable femme fatale--subverting the formula. She feels sorry for Mickey Rooney--and the ending is kind of like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. The Hunchback of Noir Dame? I don't think there is any hint of romance between them--they wisely avoid that--she feels sorry for him--and tricking him--and when Kevin McCarthy tells her-she doomed him--she just freaks out in a most "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" kind of way. And the ending--he finds some comfort in being able to help her, but it's nothing all that positive since they are both in trouble with the law.
