Created by Carroll O'Connor, starring Jack Palance. The pilot movie feels more contemplative than the average and with Palance as the lead, it's more nuanced acting than you normally would get with these things. The plot is kind of standard for the era but it feels more like a feature film--Richard Donner is director.
Bronk has a lot of problems--as usual for the era, he is not married because his wife was killed in a car accident-his daughter is severely brain damaged and he is devoted to helping her recover despite it appearing hopeless. His pint-sized superior calls him a piece of garbage and he has to take it-as well the condemnation of the police department for getting his partner killed in a drug bust he should not have been handling.
The highlight of the pilot is where Bronk returns home to find his house in shambles from a mob visit and he starts howling about his cat until he finds him safe in the closet, and despite him being allergic to cats.
Henry Beckman is his friend who runs a pet store! I look forward to the next episode. I read the finale episode focuses not on Palance but Vic Morrow as a private detective.

Bronk was on-air from September 1975 to July 1976. 25 episodes were broadcast on CBS. I saw only one story (which, to me, was weak) and have a memory of just one moment. Bronk is arguing with his boss about a plan he feels will not work. The boss tells him they are going stick with it. Bronk then says, "But at what cost?!" Then, instead of pressing his case, he turns and stomps back to his office. I thought he let his boss off easy.

The regular episodes are 50 minutes. The pilot is rather short too-- 1:15 minutes.
The pilot film for the Blue Knight was 1: 35 minutes.
I think these 70s hour shows display a little too much cost cutting. I noticed with Police Woman you get the feeling they needed another 15 minutes to tell the story. Same with Kolchak the Night Stalker.
But nowadays an hour show is only like 30 minutes of actual content.
