did Jaws need a sequel? No not necessarily but if there had to be one, Jaws 2 is honestly not too bad. Featuring some genuinely exciting and suspenseful scenes/ probably the thing that elevates Jaws 2 the most is bringing back Roy Scheider. He apparently didn't want to do the movie and he clashed frequently with the director but he still gives it his all here giving his character strength and determination but also making him human and vulnerable. Brody feels like a real person. One of his best scenes is the scene right after he gets fired and his drunk. Bringing back Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton as Brody's wife and the mayor respectively is also nice but look for some other minor role reprisals from the first one as well such as Brody's deputy and the town councilwoman. We also get to see more of Amity this time around which all help in making it a real town that feels lived in. the other thing that really elevates Jaws 2 is John Williams score. Not content with just rehashing the themes from the first, he takes those themes and expands on them. Honestly, this score is overall better than the first movie's score. Jaws 2 focuses on a bunch of teens living in the town including Brody's son. Which gives it almost a Friday the 13th vibe at times. If there is a problem is that none of the teens are particularly good actors or stand out with the exception of Keith Gordon who would later appear in movies like Dressed to Kill and Christine. Some of them also look really similar making it hard to tell them apart. The shark also somehow looks worse than the one in the first. Me and my friend laughed at how rubbery it looked near the end. Also honestly inexplicable considering this movie had even a bigger budget than the original. Luckily the camera doesn't linger on it for too long so if you want a fun creature feature and a continuation of Brody's story. Jaws 2 works fine

Weirdly I just mentioned Arnie Cunningham on Twitter.

No, I think it’s pretty solid. The teens aren’t that annoying and some of the kills are interesting. The scene where Roy Scheider loses his cool on the crowded beach is a great moment. The only thing that bugs me is how the townspeople are stupidly skeptical about another man-eating shark on the loose.

I've always thought one of the kids looks like Ringo Starr. I think he was one who wore a hat.

I've always thought one of the kids looks like Ringo Starr. I think he was one who wore a hat. Billy Van Zandt. It was a dropoff from the original obviously, but still a pretty good effort. Scheider made the thing somewhat respectable, but after this one the bottom really fell out of this franchise.

Best moment is where Tina says sh-sh-sh-sh-shaaaaaaaarrrrrk.
The scene where he goes into the water to get the boat wreckage--that is a creepy scene.
Also when he develops the photo. That is damn creepy especially as we watch it develop under the chemical water. It's well-made. The worst thing about it is the mechanical shark looks more fake. Actually, that's a movie where the performances mattered much more--it's not doing anything innovative with the fx side. Not compared to the first.
"Are you telling me I don't know what a shark looks like?"

You know someone is a troll when he or she says Jaws 2 wasn't bad, or that it was good.
Jaws 2 is the worst sequel ever made, one of the worst movies ever made. It's embarrassing to anyone who had anything to do with it.
Quite an accomplishment to be worse than Jaws 4, but Jaws 2 was way worse. 1/10

I'm possibly one of the few people on this planet who favours it over the original. It feels like much more of a horror movie and Roy Scheider's return is a big plus. It's my favourite shark movie.

For me when it came out the only good thing about Jaws 2 was that great tag line but I later watched the film with people who genuinely liked it and got caught up in their reactions.

fun fact. The original script was apparently significantly different and the film had a different director named John D Hancock and the film shot for about a week before Universal decided they weren't happy with what they were seeing so fired Hancock and brought in Carl Gottlieb to rewrite the script. this image is apparently from Hancock's original shoot

It's embarrassing to anyone who had anything to do with it. Quite an accomplishment to be worse than Jaws 4, but Jaws 2 was way worse. 1/10Before I decide styx that this could be considered a trollish response, I would be keen to hear of your context about why you feel it is the 'worst' sequel ever made and one of the 'worst' movies ever made. Taste in film is all subjective but some claims can come across as a tad preposterous when put into more perspective. How in the world do you remotely find it possible to single out me for this hatefulness? All the trolls claiming this "hate monger movie" was not poor, and you single out the one logical post. Lets look at the movie. Not much problem with the older characters, but the teenagers, what a crock. The dialog is the stupidest ever, and it was the stupidest when the movie came out. What kid has the money to rent or buy these boats or even live that close to the ocean? Are they billionaires? How filthy rich are these kids? You have to admit the lines for the kids are contrived and not natural. Of course, that's run of the mill writing for Hollywood hacks, since the guild is judged by poor writers, and has been for decades. Not to mention the Nazi ideology. All the girls are pale blonde, if they survive. The only non blonde is killed by the Nazi director. Sure, the women like this type of world, but to guys it is the most depressing world imaginable. No guy wants to get stuck with a pale blonde woman. In this Jaws 2 world, that is the depressing, boring world forced upon guys. It is what it is. The worst sequel ever made. And that's saying a lot with all the poor sequels made. As usual, the even number sequels like 2 and 4 are the worst in almost every franchise. The only exceptions that come to mind are Aliens and Star Trek 2 Wrath of Khan. Two out of about a hundred. ry franchise. The only exceptions I can think of are Aliens and Star Trek 2 Wrath of Khan.

It's a lot better than the two sequels that followed it, but it's still not very good in my opinion. It has its moments though.

2 blondes get killed during the ski scene! One gets horribly burned!
If you want conspiracy-how about the fact that all of Khan's clan in Star Trek 2 are blondes? He is supposed to be a Sikh but his family are all blondes. And Kirk's son gets killed--if only he dyed his hair...

Honestly this is probably my least favorite of the sequels. While it’s nice much of the cast was brought back and the film tries a somewhat serious approach, none of it works. Also, the death of the female boater pulling the female skier is the most laughable moment in the series and that’s saying something. The other two sequels are bad but at least they’re kind of nuts and are fun to watch. Jaws 2 is boring most of the time.
