Sorry, Frawnkensteen.
It was a fun watch but not the riot my dad made it out to be. But he said he always watched it high.

Blazing Saddles and History of the World, I enjoy. Bigger hits like Young Frank, The Producers etc were a miss for me as well. High or straight watch.

Never seen it. Or Blazing Saddles for that matter.

It's one thing to watch a movie like Young Frankenstein in a cinema, when nearly everyone laughs, and watching it by yourself and the eventual laughs is your own

Both this and Blazing Saddles are probably Mel Brooks at his peak. They are also two of Gene Wilder's best performances. Sorry the posters here don't seem to enjoy them though, humor is definitely subjective I guess.

I like Young Frankenstein a lot. I even started a quote thread for it over on the Movie Quotes board.

I find that some movies are "of their time" a bit more than others. Some humorous movies were fricking hilarious when they came out. RiskyBusiness, Revenge of the Nerds, Batchelor Party, were some of the funniest movies I'd ever seen... when they came out. Show those movies to a modern audience and I wonder if they would they get any chuckles. I know people who cant stand the "pace" of Star Wars. And that's the movie that set the modern tone for popular movies! Go figure...

I saw Young Frankenstein on theater release, and thought (still think) it to be very funny.
But I don't necessarily look for "LOL's," throughout Brooks' films. Rather, I like the clever, often very subtle, satirical touches that he applies to the genre that he's treating.
On the "old" IMDb boards, the user messages for High Anxiety ran for several pages, as we compared notes on the various "Hitchcockisms." All Hitchcock fans should see it.

I bet it wasn’t as good as Young Einstein.

I bet it wasn’t as good as Young Einstein. At first I didn't think you were serious. Then I saw Yahoo Serious.

I watched Robin Hood: Men In Tights the other day for the first time. Plenty of chuckles. One of Brooks most derided, Life Stinks - 91, is one of my favourites of his. I also find it moving as well. I've seen Life Stink but it's been years

It's good comedy in my opinion.
My favorite bit is a small one but it's where he says he's scheduled (pronounced sed-yuled) to appear at the castle Frankenstein to some commoners and they respond in shock: "Frankenstein?" "Frankenstein?" "Frankenstein?" and the dumb one says "Sed-yuled?" I mean, cmon, that's just funny.
Or maybe that was Dracula: Dead and Loving It. Either way, same style of humor.
