Just watched the Polish film Kill it and Leave This Town. Mariusz Vilczynski directed it. It's a dark mostly black and white film about a man who's reliving people in his past through his imagination. It's somewhat deliberately crude with a combination of drawn and cut out animation. The story is intriguing but also rather hard to follow and the ugly on purpose aesthetic will discourage many but not as many as the dreamlike nature of the film that leaves you wanting a bit more connection to what is going on. It has some very tender and simultaneously hideous scenes which save it from being a bad film but in the end you'll be wanting more. I give it a 6.5 out of 10.

Minions: The Rise of Gru - 7/10
Better than the first Minions. Honestly I prefer it when they aren't the main characters and Gru is there. I always felt like the heart of the franchise belonged to him and the Minions' gibbering makes them not a fitting choice to be main characters in their own movies.

Watched the first Brazilian and second ever CGI animated feature, Cassiopeia. It starts off dull but it gets more interesting when the main characters appear. It has really weird physics ideas like a universe with 11 dimensions and stars and planets that only exist in a couple, and shrunken spaceships that escape from a larger one through an escape hatch become the new de facto ship. It is a bit more primitive than Toy Story since it was designed entirely in a computer rather than scanning models. It is definitely interesting enough for at least most sci fi fans to give it a watch even if it is full of strange robot aliens and jargon. I give it a 7 out of 10. Pretty good for an early CG film from Brazil. It's a shame that it wasn't financially successful and didn't get a follow up.

I watched Absolute Denial on Amazon Prime. It's a one man animated movie directed and animated by Ryan Braund, with character animation that's probably rotoscoped. The animation distracts for the first part of the movie which is pretty dull already with the semi-monotonous exposition. The main character builds an AI in a warehouse, getting distracted from his studies. How he affords the setup is not explained very well. But it gets more interesting when the AI grows smarter and the main character runs into problems from ignoring his colleagues and friends. I don't want to spoil it but things get really strange. I was so engrossed in the second half that I was able to forgive if not overlook the dullness of the first. I give it a 7 out of 10. It doesn't have much in the way of adult content but it's probably too scary for most kids.

Puss in Boots Last Wish. Death was pretty well done. Very much enjoyed the film
Sets up the next Shrek film & honestly as annoying a Perrito seemed in the trailer, he is pretty good. I hope they let him & Donkey together/not keep them in separate scenes.

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. After watching the film, I must say Disney should have be ashamed of themselves for their earlier live-action remake. I grew to like the distinctive art style. The vocal performances were perfection. Above all else, it was very emotional and more attention was given to the character development.

I finished watching Mai Mai Miracle a few days ago. It's not the greatest movie ever but it's interesting nonetheless. It's about a girl who lives in a postwar Japanese rural town and fantasizes about how the town she lives in used to be the capital a millennium ago after being told so by her grandfather. She meets with friends and has other adventures. One involving getting drunk on alcohol filled chocolates. It's too silly for most adults which isn't helped by the stock anime laughs but it's better than similar films like Barefoot Gen 2 thanks to some nice aesthetic touches, interesting fantasy sequences, and knowing when enough silliness is enough. 7 out of 10 for me though I suspect most would rate it lower.

Picked it up not long ago, and I guess only from the trailer, it immediately felt like a mix up between the fun PS2 video games Sly Cooper and the gang, along with far too many random heist movies, and throw in some similar in plot/characters, where the villain is trying to do good, like Despicable Me, and well, it sadly ended up with so many of the modern CGI animated films. Too rushed, very hyperactive, all the time, and within the first 10 minutes, it seemed like they just did their best or worst, to make sure the audience would not be bored for one second, or end up with their heads shoved down into their cell phones, whenever there is not an explosion or some annoying pop referances or dance number going in the background. Well, beside the obvious Sly Cooper stuff, this film just tries too hard, and have little of the fun and charm of the mentioned crime trio from the PS2 franchise. Instead they just go far too often, for the cheap and vulgar jokes, and I guess it sounds like I hated it, and that is not the case, as it does kind of grow a bit onwards, but still, so many of these similar in tone, music, animation and landed on a very, very generous 5/10It will probably end up with becomming another overdrawn and rapidly worse in quality franchise, with a new one arriving, every 2-3 years, then the spin-offs and such make up for the year when a sequel is not being released.

Rock & Rule (1983) by Clive A. Smith An evil music veteran, sets out to lure a young an upcoming female rock star, into becoming part of his evil scheme of trying to free a evil force from the underground. Have had this film lying around in my watchlist, for probably almost a decade now, and have noticed that Youtube has had it uploaded for free, several times. So I decided to give it a go, since the DVDs are either out of production, or very pricy. Glad I went for the free online option, as this was quite a mediocre and forgettable ride. I think the one that I saw, was the US version, and not sure if there is big changes from the Canadian version, might be something to do with the voices or songs, but yeah, no chance of me ever wanting to re-watch it, and guess it would not really matter all that much of the outcome either. Anyway, the animation is the true highlight, stunning in places, but the plot, paperthin characters and the voice actors, are all pretty dull, and the music and rock songs are just below the quality you kind of expected, with big acts like Blondie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed among the many stars involved. All in all, it is surely not up there with Heavy Metal (1981) or the classic adult animated cult films of Ralph Bakshi, but it does pack some neat and fun scenes, as well as a few rather raunchy ones, but just feel like it never quite manages to settle between a movie for the adult audience, or a much younger one, and I believe it might be due to having Nelvana Productuons behind it all. 5/10

Pinocchio (2022) followed by Pinocchio (2022). The Pauly Shore one deserved an Oscar nomination.
