In Alpha order An American Werewolf In London / John Landis Das Boot / Wolfgang Petersen Chariots Of Fire / Hugh Hudson Coup De Torchon (Clean Slate) / Bertrand Tavernier Excalibur / John Boorman Gregory’s Girl / Bill Forsyth La Guerre Du Feu (Quest For Fire) / Jean-Jacques Annaud On Golden Pond / Mark Rydell Pennies From Heaven / Herbert Ross Raiders Of The Lost Ark / Steven Spielberg Ragtime / Milos Forman Mad Max 2 (The Road Warrior) / George Miller Scanners / David Cronenberg S.O.B. / Blake Edwards Thief / Michael Mann HM Taps / Herold Becker Stripes / Ivan Reitman Eye Of The Needle / Richard Marquand Good call on S.O.B., I forgot all about that one...underrated gem.

Interesting choice... I wonder if the film is still banned in Italy (for supposedly "defaming" the Italian armed forces). As I recall, it never received a U.S. home video release in its proper aspect ratio. I first saw it on television years ago. Apparently the Italians relented in 2009 and aired it to coincide with Gaddafi's visit.

I need to give this and another early 80s "Alien rip-off", Forbidden World (1982) another go, as they were a lot fun and looked really good, but I guess that is no surprise, as I believe James Cameron worked along on either both, or one of the films with the design/special effects. Galaxy of Terror, was the one where one of the female crew got sexually assaulted by some slimy monster?Corman knew how to produce good and entertaining b-movie monster films back then, where also Humanoids From The Deep (1980) is another gem. Glad all three got released, remastered and uncut on DVD/Blu-ray, through the Roger Corman Cult Classic series, which started up in summer of 2010, but sadly ended in 2011 or 12. Indeed it is. And Forbidden World features what is perhaps the funniest sex scene ever. They're both really fun, ultra-gory rip-offs of Alien. Top class B-movies ideally suited for anyone into trashy old school horror. Great seeing a young Robert Englund in his pre-Elm Street days as well. Have yet to see Humanoids From the Deep.

Be sure to catch the original and uncut version, if you decide to track it down someday, as it was later on re-made into a dull tv movie, which re-used some of the scenes from the 1980 film. The original turned out to be a very well made, written and acted monster-movie, which came with some truly nasty creature effects, gore, nice portion of nudity, but impressive how many talents showed up, so it is no wonder, it might be among the best made Corman films of the 80s.

Thanks for the info. I might try to check it down for a screening in the autumn, when I watch the bulk of my horror.

From what I can gather, my live action favorites have already been mentioned by others, so I'll inject some animation into this topic. My favorite from this year is American Pop, easily the best of Ralph Bakshi's films.
