You can really tell the kinda lighting he liked. I always think of backlighting, shafts breaking into shadowy rooms, sunsets/sunrises.

There's an excellent dvd / blu-ray double-disc release available from the British Film Institute of Tony Scott's 'Loving Memory' (1971) which shows the young visual stylist at work.

I noticed his style when I first saw Beverly Hills Cop 2 (1987) Not included here.

I always liked Tony Scott films. It took me a while to realize that while Ridley Scott may be the better filmmaker, Tony Scott is far more entertaining. I did a side-by-side comparison of their filmography and was surprised to learn how hit-or-miss Ridley has become.

Yea back on old IMDb I’d make lists ranking films by directors and was kind of surprised how many Tony Scott films I really loved.

I remember a lot of raised eyebrows when Quentin Tarantino said he enjoyed Tony Scott's films more than Ridley Scott's back in the early 1990's. I do too, overall. Tarantino saw Tony Scott direct 'True Romance' (1993) and I think he did a terrific job. Tarantino also delivered his 'Top Gun' speech in 'Sleep With Me' (1994).

I enjoy his visual style. His films tend to be nice to look at.

He moved the camera around too much. And quick edits in his films. Man On Fire was really bad for that. But the line "he's an artist of death, and he's about to paint his masterpiece" is great. That's worthy of a Charles Bronson movie trailer narration.
I suppose Crimson Tide was more entertaining than a number of Ridley movies I have seen.
Why did he kill himself? And by jumping off a bridge..

"Why did he kill himself? And by jumping off a bridge.." He was battling with cancer, I guess he just couldn't take it anymore. As for jumping off the bridge, Vincent Thomas Bridge is actually noteable for having quite a few suicides. I assume Tony lived near by it.

Closeup shots so tight you should be able to see pores and nose hairs, but so shaky with the camera that you really can't.

I like the look of his movies. I used to get his movies mixed up with Barry Sonnenfeld movies. They have a similar look as well.
