On that link, I see this: What's up with that, @tecnogaming ? As flattering as that is, are we not friends anymore? By the way, how's the monetizing going? I just saw that. Sorry. I just saw the list on the right. I will unpost this then. I didn't mean to offend.

Just checked my imported threads from IMDb (and I didn't even scrape anywhere near the whole site) and in my DB there is currently 32,000 unique users that IMDb had, you can probably extrapolate that they had at least 100,000 people posting (or posting/had posted in the past) I do have a backup up of all threads that I may import (2 million posts), might be interesting to see how many people they really did have registered who posted on the message boards... That is some great data! Was wonder'in about the user numbers especially the boards. Interesting,

Was surprised myself when I looked at the numbers

Just did a check against the IMDb message board dump
415,000 unique usernames
Remember this is a count from the time IMDb introduced message boards years ago - don't think it would be beyond reason to assume 150,000 users still fairly active (i.e. within the past year or so)?

Well ALOT of accounts on IMDB are vote botting and review spamming accounts, then accounts for people who dont even rate, and accounts for those who do messages (as small minority I bet) most users would be people without accounts who just look up movies etc.

Another factor is accounts created where passwords were forgotten and others created only for the user never returning to delete it.

There is a thread on AJB007, about the IMDB forums closing down. I've mentioned this site on there. Hopefully, this will help bring in new members

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that a majority of them were sock and spam accounts. What a shame.

A lot of people seem to think that www.moviechat.org/ is the place to be, because it tries to replicate IMDB as much as possible. But, the boards there that I used to frequent seem dead compared to this place. That board doesn't seem to have any of the features that we have here, either. I see much more activity and more familiar names here. Only time will tell.

Everyone was on IMBD because of the breadth of the Forum and all of the cool boards that you could wander in and out of when you became bored with a topic. Last year, spent Heavy-duty time on the following boards, TFA Board, Politics, Silent and Classic Movies, Books Board and the History/Philosophy Boards, Back to Film General and Movie Releases over the Summer. Now please tell me how moviechat fits into my expectations? Sorry moviechat IMBD2 is the champ. (Lot's hope we can all work together to promote and keep it this way- user orientated).

I checked out a lot of the boards that someone made a list of prior to IMDb closing, 80% dead - like 20 members or so maybe. Moviechat I'm convinced is the same few guys under different usernames because pretty much all the chat there is the same kinda of thing, there isn't much in the way of posts that are that different from each other. This site has a great range of people (just judging from the posts) and topics and people posting stuff There were a few other sites on the links but they were all well established sites with a more specific user base, tho a few tried to branch out but those extended boards are also dead leaving just their core members Long live IMDB v2

www.themoviedb.org/ is much prettier looking than moivechat, now that I've looked at them both more... But this place is still the most active.

The site doesn't show up on google and that is a redirect link? Why is that, is it newly built? Shouldn't be a redirect link unless you are just going to the http site in which case it redirects to the secure url And yes brand new, was chataboutfilms.com previously

The site doesn't show up on google and that is a redirect link? Why is that, is it newly built? The redirect is ProBoards'. It's added to all the links posted here.
