"Look, dickwad. I don't give a rat's ass about where you come from. All I care about is where you're going."Box office movie star Nick Lang (Michael J. Fox) has grown tired of his reputation as a hardman on the screen, and is desperate to find a solution to be taken more seriously. In order to find the right kind of motivation for his upcoming film role, Nick gets the chance to work up close with the street tough, New York cop John Moss (James Woods), who cares very little for his new sidekick. But the two must find a way to collaborate, and very soon, as they have become the favorite target of the brutal serial killer, only known as "Party Crasher" (Stephen Lang).
John Badham's The Hard Way is a fun filled buddy cop action/comedy that has bit of the same plot going as The Last Action Hero, in a way it makes fun of the classic action hero, who is here seen portrayed by Michael J. Fox as a spoiled actor with a gigantic ego to go with it, but he soon finds out that when facing the hard reality of life, he is only a mortal human being, after all. James Woods is the angry and agressive N.Y. cop who has to come to terms with the fact that he must get on with his new partner, if they want to stand a chance against the psychotic bad guy, the Party Crasher (Stephen Lang). Maybe not a stone cold classic, but still one of the better buddy cop/parody films of the early 90s, and I really enjoyed seeing Fox and Woods together, they were a pretty good team, and Lang was a riot as the villain, and as a nice bonus we get the lovely Annabella Sciorra too.
