Let's talk about House, that grumpy superdoctor, who always managed to cure the patient, eventually, and usually only after being wrong a dozen times and overhearing just the right clue at the right time.
I'm still giving it an 8 though, I loved this show, Hugh Laurie never had a better role. Well, apart from Blackadder and A bit of Fry and Laurie, ofcourse. The show was fun, the ending was excellent.

9/10.
This show was almost near-perfect. Hugh Laurie nailed the role as Dr. Gregory House. The cast had a great ensemble. I actually learned quite a bit medical wise.
It had one of the best two-part endings in the fourth season: House's Head (2008) and Wilson's Heart (2008). The writing for those episodes were phenomenal.
The only reason why I didn't give it a 10/10 is because of the way they started changing the format of the show in the fourth season. When they replaced House's ducklings, that didn't sit well with me. Charlyne Yi and Amber Tamblyn's characters annoyed me to no end. House and Cuddy in the seventh season was brutal to watch. Wilson having cancer in the eighth season was predictable.
But, overall, the show was about this brilliant doctor and his struggle with being in constant pain. That never changed.

Love the show in the early seasons, but I didn't like the increased focus on House's personal relationships and status in the later seasons. I didn't especially care to see him in a relationship with Cuddy, or in a mental hospital, or in jail, etc.

I've got to say, House's deductive ability (or lack thereof) annoys me a bit. Yes, he saves the patient--but after going through every single possible guess at diagnosis there is! What kind of master diagnostician is that?! As far as detectives or doctors go, House is a bit weak. With all that said, Laurie is indeed superb, though I do find the character irritating. Hmm... I can't think of a rating (I tend not to like numerical ratings, anyway), but then again I probably haven't seen enough episodes to be a fair judge.

I really REALLY have always liked Hugh Laurie. His Bertie Wooster is a MAJOR HOOT. BUT... I heartily disliked Doctor Gregory House. Bully, know it all, sadistic <censored> . I did watch the show off and on because I like Laurie so much but abandoned it pretty quickly as a regular watch. The man is just too MEAN to want to be near. He makes Dr. Becker seem like Albert Sweitzer!

Gotta give Laurie credit for acting so that we DO dislike the character. He is not intended to be "likeable".
Plus his 'Merican accent is incredibly well done. When he is on the talk shows, it's odd hearing him speak in his real voice. He is a very funny guy, too.

Oh, I agree. Laurie is excellent (and I agree with you about his hilarious Bertie Wooster [are you a Wodehouse fan too, Bat?]), and the accent is superb.
Still--ugh. The character really does annoy me. They're playing off Sherlock Holmes, of course, but House is Holmes without any of the latter's redeeming qualities. I often don't have any interest in watching the show just because I know House will bother me in one way or another, but the show can be fun...

NalkarjI have the whole set of the Jeeves and Wooster series and have seen maybe 1/2 of them (so far). I like to watch them in small doses so as not to overload. I just cannot get beyond Houses rudeness and general nastiness. I used to be able to, but not anymore. At least the tv meanies can be tuned into or not as the mood strikes! When a character has fewer redeeming qualities than Sherlock Holmes, we are in BIG BIG trouble !

Hugh Laurie never had a better role
Have you seen anything from the four seasons of Jeeves and Wooster ? Stephen Fry is also in this one. I felt this show is "more him". They are millions of miles apart, Wooster and House !

I unreservedly second Bat's recommendation.

It's odd I don't even know the show. I was a teenager at the time, and my father watched BBC and the likes all the time, I've seen pretty much all the British comedy shows and comedians in the eighties and early nineties. Although ITV did get taken off the air in Belgium at about that time, a'd Jeeves and Wooster was apparently on ITV.

@zieveraar I lucked upon a set of VHS tapes that augmented the PBS showings years ago. Train of thought OT.. Speaking of Jeeves ... Stephen Fry is another actor I love to watch in ANYTHING. Have you seen him in Kingdom ? If not, do so !

I definitely love Fry as much as I do Laurie. Both are gifted actors, definitely so. I've seen a lot of his work, loved him on QI
