17 National League clubs, most of them in the NLN and NLS, have now been fined a total of around Β£100,000 for failing to fulfil fixtures during the covid pandemic, when no supporters were allowed and they had no income.
The fixtures were shortly before the leagues were ended null and void due to covid. After the government suddenly decided that the support money offered was loans not grants as originally offered.
Some NL clubs are now calling for a vote of no confidence in the NL and its board. They are canvassing the other clubs next week to see if they have enough support to call an EGM and vote on it.
If a vote of no confidence in the league is passed, I have no idea what happens... I would guess the FA step in in temporary administration whilst reorganising things π€·ββοΈ

Regarding the minutes of the DCMS-NL funding meetings.
After a renewed Freedom of Information request for the minutes of the meetings, the government now say they do have them (which makes a change from not being able to find them like last time).
However, now they are saying they are not sure it is in the public interest to release them. So they will do a public interest assessment at some undisclosed time.
The obvious conclusion is that the government lied, and is at fault for the entire mess. They just don't want to show everyone, after accusing others of lying, when it's them.
What's the point of Freedom of Information when the government hides behind technicalities to avoid disclosure π€·ββοΈ
The government shouldn't get to decide what is and isn't a public interest. A member of the public has asked for the information, so that is an interest from the public. How can it not be in the public interest to know if the government is bare faced lying to them?

Well, the vote not to continue was by the clubs in the League and so it's not as strait forward as the normal blame the League, although the fines were stupid and heavy handed. At the same time there were Nleague North and South clubs who no doubt feel pissed off that they were deprived the chance to get promoted. Personally I'd switch the clubs that refused to fulfil fixtures with those at the top of the North and South otherwise someone else is penalised for their stance. Very tricky though, and shows the difference in funding levels between clubs in that division.

It's more a gesture by those that have been fined.

The motion of no confidence has been proposed by Maidstone United and seconded by Dorking Wanderers.
Clubs in the three National Leagues have until midday on Wednesday to respond to see if there are enough clubs wishing to hold an extraordinary general meeting to debate the motion and vote on it.
I'm thinking most of the NL clubs won't go for it, and the NLN and NLS clubs will be split on the issue... Guess we'll find out on Wednesday or Thursday if the motion has legs or is a non-starter.

I'm pretty certain that Dover Athletic will be supporting the no confidence motion.
They've been absolutely spanked... All their matches this season expunged, Β£40,000 fines, and 12 point deduction next season.

Right so... Today is the extended deadline for clubs to vote on calling an EGM to debate and vote on a no confidence motion.
10% of the weighted* vote is required to call the EGM, and 75% of the vote to pass a motion of no confidence.
* A vote by a NL club carries more weight than a NLN or NLS club.

Clubs in favour of the vote are discussing next steps. Statement expected on Thursday.
And it's being reported that Brian Barwick, Chairman of the National League is resigning.
Have to wonder... Is he resigning, or being pushed out by the board, as a sacrifice to try and bring the no confidence motion to an end π€

Is he resigning, or being pushed out by the board, as a sacrifice to try and bring the no confidence motion to an end π€ It's confirmed, he is resigning. Either deserting the sinking ship, or was offered a leaving payment if he threw himself on his sword π€ PS. Side issue... I've never understood why 'deserting a sinking ship' is considered a derogatory thing? If you're on an actual ship, and it's really sinking, you would have to be a right mug not to get off it if the opportunity presented itself, would you not π€·ββοΈ I'm with the rats, clever animals π

The numbers have been reached to call the EGM to debate and vote on the motion.
I personally doubt that they will get the numbers at the meeting to pass the motion. Still, the fact that the motion has the support to request the EGM sends a message to the board that the chairman resigning isn't enough.
The board are meeting today.

Given the absolute shit show the RFL has become , Iβm not surprised the National League is in the mess itβs in if this bloke is running the show.
