Thought this subject would be ideal for Good Friday. Who do you think gave the best performance as Jesus Christ?
My vote goes to Robert Powell in the miniseries Jesus Of Narzareth.

Cliff Curtis in Risen (2016).
Jeffrey Hunter in King of Kings (1961).

Jim Caviezel.
How can you not watch this scene and think he doesn’t seem pure...

Okay, maybe I'm cheating a bit here.......but since you didn't specify that it HAD to be J.C. as depicted on film, or that it couldn't be a sketch comedy performance, I'm going with Phil Hartman on SNL !! SAVE FERRIS

Lots of good portrayals, but I liked Henry Ian Cusick in Gospel of John (2003). It was word for word from the Gospel with Christopher Plummer narrating.

Especially when he asks them “he who is without sin may cast the first stone at her” He was almost too good of an actor, and the others were so mediocre... he made them look worse.

Yes I agree, most of the rest of the cast were stage actors I believe, and weren't all that great. I was really excited when he later played Desmond in Lost.

SAVE FERRIS I used to watch SNL all the time during this era, but I don't remember this sketch. It was funny though. Thanks for posting.

Max von Sydow, Greatest Story Ever told
One thing, Charlton Heston made the best John the Baptist. My favorite Heston role

Caviezel
He was able to make Jesus feel human. Good sense of humor in some of the flashbacks and he sold the pain really well (partly because he was accidentally beaten to a pulp on set anyway, but still impressive).
Not sure if anyone has seen The Bible miniseries from a few years ago, but I was not a fan of that actor's portrayal of Jesus. He played him like a pretentious hippie, which is not at all the way I've ever thought of Jesus.
