Proved superhero movies off the page could thrive. Reeve as Superman remains the quintessential CBM performance & perhaps may also never be surpassed. ![](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMTYwNjAyODIyMF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwNDMwMDk2._V1_UX182_CR0,0,182,268_AL_.jpg) Batman 1989 - was in the works earlier than ppl recall, via Superman's success. Paved the way for adult skewed darkened superhero productions. The iconography of this character & film showed the possibilities were nearly endless. ![](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMTMxNTMwODM0NF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwODAyMTk2Mw@@._V1_UX182_CR0,0,182,268_AL_.jpg) The Dark Knight 2008 - personally, I think it got so much of what it attempted right, others have been afraid of going anywhere near it (i.e. MCU). After several solid nods at the Superman DNA following Batman's rough sequels (X-Men, Spider-Man), it took Nolan's TDK to take the next giant step. ![](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BNDYxNjQyMjAtNTdiOS00NGYwLWFmNTAtNThmYjU5ZGI2YTI1XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMTMxODk2OTU@._V1_UX182_CR0,0,182,268_AL_.jpg) The Avengers 2012 - accomplished the impossible, an ensemble that not only delivered fan service, it was arguably better than all its solo build ups... and laid the gauntlet down for the Infinity Saga (& all its 23 films as a whole) to nearly completely take over Hollywood. I hope that doesn't get lost to history - some ppl were still having some reservations the weeks leading in, if it could even live up.

Hellboy Hellboy 2: The Golden Army Spider-Man X2: X-Men United
Went with all superhero films. I could make a list of my favorite non-superhero comic films.
