Wayne Tinkle’s extended contract that takes the Oregon State men’s basketball coach through the 2026-27 season will pay him as much as $3 million per season.

Tinkle signed a contract extension Sunday that combined with the old deal totals six years. Tinkle had two years remaining on his previous contract, plus an additional year due to a bonus clause as Oregon State earned an NCAA Tournament berth this year.


According to the updated contract obtained by The Oregonian/OregonLive, Tinkle received a $300,000 raise for next season, paying him $2.5 million. Tinkle earns a $100,000 salary raise each year after that, with $3 million paid in 2026-27.

In addition, Tinkle earns deferred compensation of $13,889 per month through June of 2022. This compensation began in June of 2016. Tinkle will receive the entire amount if he remains at Oregon State through June 30, 2022.

Starting in July of 2022, Tinkle receives deferred compensation of $8,334 per month through the end of the contract. Tinkle is entitled to each year’s annual sum of $100,000 if he is employed at OSU on June 30 of that year.

Salary and deferred compensation for the next six years is in excess of $17.2 million.
