I was going to estate sales and yard sales and it was a nice neighborhood. Well...there were cars on both sides of the street. I went past her and was going slowly when all of a sudden she decides to go in reverse and goes right down the side of my car with her car. All...I saw was the paint coming off of her car as she hit my driver's side mirror. I pulled over onto the right side and parked and got out to look at what she did. She drove probably fifty or sixty yards in the opposite direction and was parked and out checking her car. Some guy told me that I should move my car and I was going to but I was checking the damage. I thought she had just skint the sideview mirror but she didn't. She made a long superficial scratch down the driver's side door and she scratched the black bumper part and made an about three inches deep scratch underneath the bumper. By the time I went to go and get it into my car to go to where she was...she was driving off. I'm just really stupid. I didn't even get her license plate number.

I tried going after her and failed and turned around and went back to where it happened. I told the lady at the house where it happened in front of but she made no mention of cameras.

Most people are, under those circumstances. You forget important procedures. So don't think of yourself as stupid. It also might be worth reporting it to the police if you can't get anywhere and letting them know it was a hit and run. Give them a description of the car and driver. Don't know if it will turn up anything but you never know.

I hope you're okay.
Hit-and-runs are a serious offense. You definitely need to call Law Enforcement and report the incident, especially if you plan on having the damage repaired through your insurance company. If you provide them with an address, date, and time, they may be able to ask if anybody in the neighborhood happened to film it. I'm sure there were several witnesses.
A lot of hit-and-runs are people worried about either having:
• No insurance • Higher premiums • Driving on a suspended/revoked license • Fined, jailed, and/or having points reduced
I used to work as a File Clerk for a personal injury law firm years ago. A majority of vehicle accidents contained at least one of the above.
I was in a similar incident back in 2014 while shopping at Home Depot. Somebody with a rental truck hit my bumper and ran off according to the security footage. They had documentation of the person with all of their information. I presented them a police report, made copies of everything, then footed the bill to the driver's insurance company since they didn't opt to have any on the rental vehicle. I was issued a check several weeks later.
Not really sure what happened to the guy. Home Depot probably also went after him since it happened on company property. They were probably worried about a potential lawsuit, but I wasn't harmed in any way.
Don't worry, nobody thinks you're stupid. You were probably in shock. I wouldn't be able to think clearly myself.
Good luck to you.

Good luck to you. I'm glad you got issued a check. I was the victim of a hit and run a couple of weeks ago. It was night and raining and what looked like a young punk (I couldn't see very well) veered into my lane, slamming into my right quarter panel of my car. After he knew he hit me he hit the gas and got away. Naturally, nothing could be done. I didn't know what kind of car it was and I couldn't get a plate number. I had to deal with my insurance co. and the auto body shop, plus I had to rent a car until mine was fixed. Needless to say, I had out-of-pocket expenses. The reasons you list for hit and runs are true, but I would also add these to the list. Drunk or high Drugs in the car Wanted But I guess my list would fall under your "worried about jail." What a mess.
