not one Boy, would I be pissed if I had wasted good money on the Golden Child! I recently watched that movie for the first time after hearing my brother rave for years about how it was one of the best Eddie movies. It was a struggle to finish it because it was so damn bad.

I watched it for the first time a few months ago myself. I couldn’t believe how bad it was. Like you said, it was a struggle to even finish it.

I didn't struggle to finish it, but I agree it is a bad movie. That is 3 responses in a row now that think the movie is crap.

I think Roger Ebert actually said that he thought The Golden Child was funnier than Beverly Hills Cop. Whatever you say, Rog. And the POS did make over $100,000,000. And Murphy never distanced himself from it, like he did with Best Defense and BHCIII

Roger Ebert had very idiosyncratic taste sometimes and was not shy about it. I have very idiosyncratic opinions too, so I can't complain.

And I'm sure there are fans of any movie, no matter how bad. Someone who thinks Robot Monster was terrifying and Baby Geniuses 2 was uproariously funny. More power to them. My wife, who has good taste in movies, think Battlefield Earth "isn't that bad. It's watchable" Oy vey
Well, maybe not Manos: The Hands of Fate. Then again, it was made for $19,000 by a fertilizer salesman from El Paso. What did you expect, Lawrence of Arabia?

A movie being watchable doesn't make it not awful. I think there is a term for these types of awful movies. Battlefield Earth is "so bad it's good" imo. It is an ironically hilarious movie and I honestly like the atmosphere and tacky sets. With that being said, there are very few movies I think are unwatchable. I had a much harder time finishing Moulin Rouge (2001) than Battlefield Earth. Moulin Rouge is borderline unwatchable imo.

I had a much harder time finishing Moulin Rouge (2001) than Battlefield Earth. Moulin Rouge is borderline unwatchable imo. Plan 9 From Outer Space is a "so bad it's good" for me, while Battlefield Earth is not. Both had bad (very bad) acting, but BE's came from real actors, Forest Whittaker, John Travolta, Barry Pepper. Ed Wood got what he could get out of Vampira, Tor Johnson and the morphine addled Bela Lugosi. It probably cost more to film 30 seconds of BE than the entirety of P9. Mostly, there's a goofy charm to P9. The silly costumes, the inane dialogue, the cheesy effects. None of that in BE.
All in the eye of the beholder. Some of my unwatchable, any "action movie", ones where there's 15 death and 25 explosions before the opening credits, all the Rocky movies after the 1st (fresh in my mind, I just tried to muddle through II), basically, stuff w/o plot.
