Lets be honest and state its not a music competition.
there will be 100,000 musicians that turn it down before the UK gets a contestant to go forward......
But yeah - Eurovision is the liberal globalist wet dream man. All inclusive right!

Was it my imagination or did they keep mentioning "diversity" tonight?

I don't think 9/10 of Americans know Eurovision exists. Its not broadcast here. Trump's America would have had a field day with Conchita Wurst (the Austrian who won a couple years ago).
Other that Celine Dion and ABBA, I doubt a Eurovision winner has sold more than a handful of records here (could be wrong, I don't have the list of winners).

Was it my imagination or did they keep mentioning "diversity" tonight? I didn't see one black or asian artist? Or I cannot remember one! Diversity in Eurovision seems to be about is non straight people. Its all about the other 100078.3 genders..

No because, let's be honest, if they put effort into it they'd win every year.

There were a couple in the Semi Finals, but none of them made it through for this years one. Last year had Dami Im, a Korean immigrant to Australia. Did very well and would've won it too...

No because the US isn't a European nation. With a name like that only Europeans can participate.

exactly -
this tournment isnt about what is the best - and no quality artists want to be involved anyway, and if you come from a hated nation - like the Bigger richer ones you dont get much chance anymore.. The US couldnt win with Elvis coming back from the dead.

The US couldnt win with Elvis coming back from the dead. ...or Taylor Swift. Today you have to be popular, a branding that fits all (major) markets. Someone like Swift could do that. Lena was not that good, but extremly charming. The Spice Girls were from top to toe a planned project of producers who selected girls for each major niche/theme: Posh Spice (clothing, fashion - the worst singer, but with the greatest look), Scary Spice (for hipsters and als diversity factor), Sporty Spice (to have someone who can actually sing and for the sport theme), than Baby Spice (the girly girls) and Ginger Spice (to jerk off to - including "leaked" nudes). And they had success! It is said that Beckham saw a Spice clips while being on an away-game and said to his room-mate: I will marry this girl (=> Posh Spice). Edit: It will be next to impossible due to the political voting, but hey: with the help of our Nazi-Scientists they were the only ones who made it up to the moon.

Other: What the hell is Eurovision? Sounds like Lasik. Just the longest running music competition and with the highest tv ratings of any entertainment programme in the world. Not much to know about...or is it?

Other: What the hell is Eurovision? Sounds like Lasik. European song contest. Kind of a combination of Miss World contest and the World Cup. Every nation sends an act and they get voted on. It launched the careers of ABBA and Celine Dion. It's slightly less schmaltzy than a Liberace concert. Slightly

I love pop music, I love all music really, but Taylor Swift is a bit too corny even for me. Her glass ceiling really should have been writing ditties for radio ads. And I bet she'd be bloody good at it too! The best, but not quite good enough for a record contract. So yeah, perfect for Eurovision.
As for America entering Eurovision, no chance, it would completely shatter their illusion that the world loves them. They must think that, otherwise why do they talk so loudly in restaurants?
Personally though, I love Americans, so would be more than happy to have them on board in this prestigious event. And it would be nice to have some developing countries in the contest.
