That double-feature presentation, by Blue Underground, sure looks sweet. I think I recently re-watched Hell of the Living Dead, but through another DVD version, with different artwork, sadly not as awesome as the original used above. Rats, that I do owe a DVD copy of, and always found it quite amusing, for a trashy anc cheesy italian post-apocalyptic horror movie. Might have to re-watch that one, as well.

I had to buy a new dvd player as mine is not working well and refuses to display the color red. Watching Dr Phibes--it was only showing yellow and blue--and I was thinking..this isn't what I remember--shouldn't his organ be a tint of red? I had to watch it on a file instead but I have tons of dvds so I bought a portable cheapo player.

Rats was far more entertaining than I thought it would be when I watched it on El Rey (no longer get that channel now) years ago. Chocolate is sexy. I never saw that ending coming. I first saw Hell on VHS as Night of the Zombies. Back when the only thing at all I knew about it was it was zombie movie. I didn't even mind the stock wildlife shots but I was frustrated/disapointed with how dark the picture was. I liked it though. I still wish the movie expanded on the HOPE facilities though. The way I took it is HOPE was presenting itself as a humanitarian/end third world hunger benevolent quasi government corporation. When in reality "Operation Sweet Death" was meant to turn the third world population into cannibals eating themselves and then the first world Powers That Be come in and clean up, take over their land and resources. But probably they didn't count on it reanimating people. And the breach/leak at the HOPE factory...they lost control of their bioweapon and with the bites turning people it all got out of control and into the first world countries where it was never supposed to.

Song Of The South (1946) No way! How...!? I thought Disney had banned any releases of that film! Did you rob the Disney Vault or something? While browsing through DVDs on AMAZON... The website recommended the film to me... This release does NOT appear to have been released through Disney's home video division... And it's origins are very mysterious... What I can say about it is this: I think it is a DVD-R... It is region free... and even though the seller lives in Florida, it shipped quickly from Minnesota... The video source appears to have come from a print of the film, rather than the original negative... However, that is not to say that the quality is bad. In fact, considering this film came out in 1946, the Video quality is excellent when compared to some newer films that have been released from 3rd party sellers onto Bargain Bin Collection Sets, like: " 50 classic horror films" type of thing, that you have probably seen at places like your local Walmart... And I don't think it could be any better quality, unless Disney's home video division decided to release it themselves... There are a few bonus features included, which are of the same video quality as well... Not sure what their origins are, as well, but... they appear to have come from " The Disney Vaults" or another major company, at one time or another. They do not appear to be made by some fan. The movie and bonus features, appear to be encoded onto the disc, as one long video file... When the movie is over, the bonus features automatically play, one right after another... The menus will allow you to access each feature directly though, and there is a scene selection option for the film. As I recall, there is no Closed Captioning/Subtitles for the film... And of course, there is No Audio Commentary... Which I wouldn't even expect would be a bonus feature if it was released through Disney's home video division. As I implied, the Quality could be better if it came from a restoration of the original negative, but since Disney has no interest in doing so, IN MY OPINION, this is probably the best release on physical media that any of us can expect to find, at this time. Customer reviews for the product have a high rating, and If interested, you can find it here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08YJF8GHT/Interestingly, while keeping the controversial claims in mind, while I watched the film.... I didn't really think that the live action sequences could be considered to be offensive, since the film takes place just after the civil war, and it was done very respectfully in regards to history. Perhaps, it's just the history part, and not the film, that people find offensive... The animation, on the other hand... Now that is filled with racist stereotypes, even if they are in the form of rabbits and bears, instead of humans... Their lack of intelligence, their speech patterns, and so on, well, it's just something way too obvious that Disney should never have done... and I can understand why some may find that to be so controversial now. Here's an in-depth article with a similar detailed review: www.songofthesouth.net/movie/overview/defense.htmlOddly, given all it's controversial hype, I found the film to be rather boring... Yeah, " let's banish a film that no kid today would really want to see!" LOL!... Anyway... That's not to say, it's all bad... It's still nice to have the film in my home video collection, because James Baskett's portrayal of Uncle Remus was fantastic, and it's nice every once in a while to "sit around the campfire" with him while he tells his stories... and to listen to him sing one of the most famous songs in Disney History: "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah"...

Great post. I recall watching the movie on TV back in the 90s. Presumably this is before the attempted erasure of the movie by Disney. I think I liked it, but I was young and didn't pick up on any of the racial subtext, since I was pretty much oblivious to racism at that time.
