Finally got around to seeing this movie. Honestly I was kind of disappointed, because only knowing about it from Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments, I thought the entire movie would be about this political assassination, not just the last 20 minutes of the movie.
It was definitely interesting. The suicide by scissors was definitely weird, they don't show us what happens, but they show us the bloody corpse after it happens.
Johnny Smith's question to his doctor about going back in time and killing Hitler is very thought provoking. People ask this question constantly, but nobody ever sums it up like Johnny did, you won't come out of it alive. So would you be willing to sacrifice your life to save 10 million people, KNOWING that nobody would ever know or appreciate what you'd done and just assume you're some loony gunman? That's why the ending is actually perfect, because people actually KNOW what their candidate is willing to sink to, he destroys himself and the world sees it happen.

I find it more thought-provoking than scary too, but thought-provoking still qualifies as an enjoyable experience nonetheless. I actually read the book to this before seeing the movie (a very, very rare case for me) and it adapts it well. Great cast too. Quite an underrated classic.

Did you watch it uncut without commercial interruption? I like this film a lot.

Not to be picky, but the release year for The Dead Zone was 1983. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the Shout! Factory blu-ray coming out in July.

Yeah, I got it on a DVD collection of Stephen King movies and miniseies, I watched it last night, Silver Bullet this morning and am halfway through the miniseries The Golden Years.

Awesome! I hate seeing them on commercial networks.
