The Time Machine is one of my all time favorite novels. Just brilliant and so ahead of its time.
What say you?

The Time Machine. Much better than the movies.

Back in 2005 when the Spielberg/Cruise loud, crashing, head-pounding, earache-inducing summer action movie of “War Of The Worlds” came out, some of the movie’s fans complained (hilariously) about the “pretentious” narration of the trailer. Well, what they were hearing was a quote drawn from the opening paragraph of the actual novel the movie was based on : That’s actually pretty classy. My vote: a tie between War Of The Worlds and The Time Machine.

Often, when watching Wells or Lovecraft adaptations, I have the old thought: why not just film the stories as written? I know that will not always work. Books and movies are different things, but give it a try. Just once: see how it works.
