Both are so way beyond what horror audiences are used to.

I've only seen suspiria when i rented it, long ago vhs. Couldn't make sense of anything that was going on. For some reason it looked like crap, like the image quality or something though.

If we're talking about the original Suspiria in this discussion, I really like both. Think I'll do the unusual and say both; this is pretty tough for me.

Love the original Suspiria. The remake is excellent also, taking the barest bones of the original and creating a completely new film, on par and in some ways better.
There were elements I liked about Midsommar (score, visuals, daylight setting), but overall it didn't do that much for me. It was slightly better than Hereditary though.
