Humphrey Bogart served in WWI and Donald Pleasance served in WWII, and was actually captured by the Nazis.

William Wellman was a pilot in WWI and shot down a few enemy planes before he himself was shot down and wounded in a dogfight. He also revealed to his family, in his later years, that he'd married a French woman during his tour of duty in France; she was killed in a bombing raid during the war. The family thought he'd had four wives; this made the French wife the first of five marriages for the director.

Was about to say Jimmy. Supposedly he even suffered from PTSD too. He was a fighter pilot, I believe.

John Ford was on Midway when it was bombed by the Japanese during the battle. He was even wounded. Ronald Colman got his limp when he was wounded during the Battle of Messines in WWI.

Christopher Lee fought in WW2 first for Finland and then worked as a intelligence officer for the British. While filming Saruman's death scene, Peter Jackson directed him on how to breathe after getting stabbed in the back. Lee asked him if he knows what sound a man makes when stabbed in the back. Jackson just replied no. Lee just said "I do."

Most of those born in the 1920s did. They often studied drama after the war by use of the GI Bill.
Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Ernest Borgnine... Too many to name. Basically all of that generation.

Were there any actors from the early 1900s that fought in the Civil War? Surely there must have been a few

How could I forget he fought in Charlie Wilson’s war? 😂 I heard that he had some squabbles with Somalian pirates as well at one point.

On a serious note. Adam Driver was a Marine. He said he got swept up in American Patriotism after 9/11 and enlisted.
