I think that’s a crock. There’s toxic assholes in EVERY Internet forum; the ones on old IMDb weren’t that bad. They just didn’t want to keep paying for the servers, I’m assuming.
That's true sometimes, but the members here are SO much more respectful than IMDB ever was. I even start to learn either by name or avatar the kinds of movies people like here.
But I agree it probably came down to money for them. I wonder if it was worth it because they started IMDB message boards back up again. It was kinda slow, but I probably just copy/pasted something I just posted from here. I think I'll check it out now.
They did? When did that happen?

No it was not a good thing. Even with the trolls, it was still a much bigger and more varied community than any of these knock off boards has produced. I absolutely loved going through every animated film’s board and looking for fascinating new discussions. That no longer exists on any of these new boards.

Not entirely. I still miss keeping a track of what my acquaintances were rating though I agree that IMDb boards were vastly inferior to what we have here.

They did? When did that happen? I've seen posts since 2017, but there's more activity here.

From what I remember, the official word was the message boards were antiquated, not worth the effort to maintain, and contributed little to the overall traffic to the website. Yeah I’m sure they’re doing just fine now.

The individual message boards for the movies and actors were the best thing about the IMDb message boards. There were so many fun discussions on those boards.
I remember The Karate Kid 3 board had some really funny discussions.
The main boards were always busy. You would get replies instantly.
So no, it was not a good thing that the IMDb boards closed down. It was always great bashing pretentious idiots like you.

In retrospect, I'm glad IMDB got rid of their message boards. It didn't seem like a community at all. I only remember one person from there, despite being a member for 20 years and counting. We got three new message boards we wouldn't have had unless IMDB did get rid of their boards, and each has their own thing, their own identity. And, IMDB can always re-start them back up. I remembered the boards being full of 14-yr olds who scrolled the shit out of that place. I did like the "Rate: ______" - because there were SO many people, you ALWAYS got a reply. No
