In retrospect, I'm glad IMDB got rid of their message boards. It didn't seem like a community at all. I only remember one person from there, despite being a member for 20 years and counting.
We got three new message boards we wouldn't have had unless IMDB did get rid of their boards, and each has their own thing, their own identity. And, IMDB can always re-start them back up.
I remembered the boards being full of 14-yr olds who scrolled the shit out of that place. I did like the "Rate: ______" - because there were SO many people, you ALWAYS got a reply.

In my opinion no. I liked how every movie and tv show and even actor or director or anyone had their own board. That’s why I miss the IMDb forums

Maybe it was a happy accident.

I think it's sad that it had to come to completely shutting them down because the boards had become a such degenerate-infested shithole.

When the boards were turned to dust, my time on that website dropped to nearly 100%. All those posts... lost in time... like tears in rain.

There’s toxic assholes in EVERY Internet forum; the ones on old IMDb weren’t that bad. They just didn’t want to keep paying for the servers, I’m assuming.

Disagree, it got way more traffic and responses. I used to post topics on the Music Forum got tons of responses right away. Now I'm lucky if I can get a couple of responses on there.

From what I remember, the official word was the message boards were antiquated, not worth the effort to maintain, and contributed little to the overall traffic to the website.

I was so upset when these closed down the boards. I was on a lot of the movie boards, and found a lot of good information on them, and loved exchanging ideas with a lot of the people. I'm not talking about the other miscellaneous boards, but the specific boards for each movie. It's a huge loss.

I just thought of probably the worst thing - the individual movie boards. I know a few forums archived them, and I'm so thankful for that, but IMDB had a LOT of users, so its possible that all the movies I've seen since 2017 (or even before and didn't mention in discussion) could have been discussed with a much larger audience.
I should clarify. In the early 2000s, there was a community, and it was all movie talk. But in the last couple years, there was just too much spam threads, the sock shit, which would also take half the page with one word subject lines and bodies. But even at the end, if I wanted to gauge an interest of a rare movie I had just seen, chances are I would get multiple replies. On this site, I'd say 10% of my threads have 0 replies and die on site. But I actually know and like a handful of people here, where I only had one "friend" on IMDB and don't remember anyone else because there was so much activity. IMDB is very expansive, and I guess we all use it for different reasons. I go on there to keep track of my watch-list, ratings, and I love to check out the user reviews of movies that get no response here. It's too bad they made it unable to send that person a private message, or even the mini-boards from each movie. I also love the use of IMDB lists made by users. When I see a great unique movie, I want to see a bunch of lists that have similar movies, although half the time the lists are made of movies from that year, or an actor, and not necessarily a subject matter, probably because I seem to like movies with no standard plot.
IMDB can always come back with these boards. IMDB has to know about all these sites. Many sites are made FREE on proboards, which is a great site for this reason. Maybe go the low overhead route, and make money from ads. And being owned by Amazon, advertising shouldn't be a problem. I do have this new hope that IMDB message boards will come back, and we'll still have these.
I was just talking to someone on another board, and he replied that the movie talk is dying there, too, so having multiple boards is cool because if one site doesn't know/care about a topic that's on your mind, you have a lot more selection. Before if no one replied on IMDB, I had no one to talk to.
I also just remembered, that IMDB actually DID start back up message boards. I think I signed up a year ago, but it wasn't too busy, but I probably just copy/pasted something I posted on here. I should check it out to see the progress, if any.

I liked the individual boards, sometimes actors would go on their page and answer questions in the forum.

That's true sometimes, but the members here are SO much more respectful than IMDB ever was. I even start to learn either by name or avatar the kinds of movies people like here.
But I agree it probably came down to money for them. I wonder if it was worth it because they started IMDB message boards back up again. It was kinda slow, but I probably just copy/pasted something I just posted from here. I think I'll check it out now.

I miss the individual boards for various films. The old films for the most part didn’t attract the trash. I do enjoy this forum more though overall. I actually sort of feel like I know a few posters on here which is nice.

Yes, that's it, thank you! I was trying to look for it, but couldn't find it, and kept running into IMDB Answers.
Looks like the "community" is still dead, and it's confusing to even look at.

I also really miss the individual boards for films and television.
The boards for Jaws, The Godfather, The Exorcist......these were all real cool where you could get into the most fascinating discussions.
And the Seinfeld board was quite simply one of my favorite things to ever check out on the internet. That place was seriously funny.
Yeah, there were a lot more creeps and weirdos, but honestly I felt that just added to the fun. There's nothing wrong with some nuts in the ice cream, to be honest this new place can feel pretty bland and vanilla at times. Sometimes I feel everyone here gets along a little too well, people stirring things up can be lots of fun.

I never hanged out there regularly--but I did value the individual boards. It's the biggest loss for older movies--because those ones get less trolls I suspect.
Who cares about trolls on the latest Batman.
