It seems like that until he makes a movie that pisses everyone off. I still prefer Nolan but I've liked all the Villeneuve movies I've seen so far. Still need to watch Enemy and Prisoners.

Funny, I made a thread that was very similar to this a while back. When it comes to his status as an Internet darling of blockbuster movies, I definitely get the impression that Villeneuve has taken Nolan’s place, but when it comes to the masses, he hasn’t made his TDK or Inception yet.

I love Blade Runner 2029 but other than that I don’t think his filmography is all that impressive. Prisoners and Arrival were both extremely mediocre to me.
Looking forward to Dune though.

Oh I dunno, Dune has proved to be a sandy wilderness for many a film maker already - Arthur Jacobs, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Ridley Scott, De Laurentiis, Peter Berg, Richard Rubinstein to name a few. I'd say Villeneuve has his work cut out to have a successful crack at the notoriously dense (and long) book.

Pretty much, given how hes basically copied Nolans trope of having some bizarre twist in almost every movie.
