The studios really don’t want you to have physical media in all honesty, they’d prefer you to only have streaming access, but for years they recognized the profit margin on them so kept up production. Sales have been falling for quite some time though so a merger between Universal and WB makes sense. I’ll keep buying physical media as long as it’s available. I stream films that I know I probably won’t watch again but buy everything else, especially older films that will probably never have a streaming option. The boutique labels do an incredible service for the classic film collector and Kino, Arrow, Criterion, Warner Archive and to a very limited extent now, Twilight Time and Olive do stand up releases. The releases from Shout Factory can be really good, too.

I remember the days when it you wanted to own a movie you had to get a Super 8 projector and settle for very heavily edited versions.

Not gonna lie though, I'm expecting physical media to be extinct within 20 years or so. Generation brought up on streaming won't care that DVD dump bins used to exist at the grocery store for cheap. Besides, the world seems headed for that future along most mediums yes? Even ownership might be on the chopping block - ppl 'renting' clothing, vehicles, phones, etc. some say is inevitable.

What l? No more Warner archive!??
I buy a ton of those 'made on demand' movies of theirs. This is definitely gonna suck.

The Warner Archives podcast was really good. I wish it was on youtube--I cant access it easily on the actual stream--they had some good shows and the hosts were knowledgeable.
There are Mickey Rooney and Stephanie Powers interviews I want to check out.
