I just saw the first 3 episodes of the second season of Master of None. Boy, was that first episode really something. I wish they kept it all in black and white and in Italy AND in Italian. What a wonderful performance by that kid! And great writing too. It was so fresh. Aziz at his top form again.
Anyone else watches this show? What did you think?

Yeah I've watched the first five. Really enjoying it so far, a step up in quality on last season, I agree the opening episode was great, I wish Dev would have stayed in Italy longer. Episode 4 is really good too, the whole episode is dedicated to Dev's dating experiences. Only downside for me is a couple of the supporting actors' performances are not really up to scratch, Devs cousin being top of the list.

I agree the whole dating episode is good. I always think "shit like this cant be happening on dates" as in "nobody would do this"…. like the girl hitting on other guys in front of her date, or the girl talking about giving a hand job to the bartender while on a date, but maybe they would? I guess I havent been on enough bad/weird dates. I so wish they made at least one more black and white with Dev in Italy, in Italian. It felt so unique. I wonder what that episode would feel like to Italian people though...

I just finished the season. Wow. The last 3 episodes were fantastic. Amazing writing from Aziz, and wonderful performances from him and the girl who plays Francesca (who I am a little bit in love with). I was not prepared for that level of emotion in the last couple of episodes.

I was not prepared for that level of emotion in the last couple of episodes. well…. wtf was that … just got done with the last few episodes. pros: it was very well made, great writing, acting, cinematography, music cons: the level of emotions was too much for me. it turned the show into a different genre for me, and it kinda dragged. I wasnt watching Master of None in order to get depressed, you know. I much MUCH preferred the lightness of the first episode of this season, or even the second or third. With Francescas arrival to NYC it just got sooo dark... Well made, sure, but very dark. Shit and now I am depressed like hell! I might just as well "find the dumbest movie out there and watch it" spoiler question: so… per the last shot, you figure she left Pino and moved to NYC with Dev? I kinda didnt root for them. I really liked the girl Sarah from the first episode and up till the end hoped she would re-appear. What about you, how did you understand the end and how did you like it? And also - which stupid but fun and light movie should I watch now to feel better again? Any recommendation? I am feeling like an Adam Sandler movie now could be what I need. But which one?

Saw the first episode the other night and thought it was fantastic.
I didn;t care much for the first season except for the episode with his parents & the episode where he and his girlfriend move in together.
Hopefully the rest of the season lives up to the first episode.

I was expecting Francesca to stay with Pino or leave him and still go back to Italy, because like Arnold said, if she chose Dev and moved to New York, it would have put so much pressure on the relationship before it even began. Then the last shot came along and ended there, I was like WTFFF!!!...
I liked that there was a lot more substance to this season, agreed it was depressing at times, lots of people can relate to the loneliness Dev feels, but you can't have the highest highs without the lows. One of my favourite scenes that emphasised this was Dev in the cab after he drops off Francesca.
The thanksgiving episode was one of my favourites, Angela Bassett was great as usual, and after doing some reading, I found out that Lena Waithe(Denise) helped write the episode and put her own experience with coming out to her mother into it.
Stupid fun light movie = Idiocracy.

Does he play the same insanely annoying character he usually plays? I really hated him in Parks & Rec and every movie he's been in. He always plays such a douchebag. Is this show any different?

Is this show any different? while I really like Aziz everywhere, I think I can relate to what you describe and can see how some of his characters can be labeled as annoying. And yes I would say this is different. He brings a lot of vulnerability and "realness" (is that a word?) into this role and show over all I think. He is still himself in the way he acts (but nothing as overly out there as Tom from P&R) but he portrays a very human character that is really easy to relate to. plus the show is very well written and is one of the smartest shows out there right now. I highly recommend it. Its not a laugh out loud haha show necessarily, but its worth worthing. Kinda like Louis CK and his sitcom I think.

I loved Aziz in Parks & Rec since he was a snippet of a larger cast. Plus his friendships with them worked on him.
That said, transferring that character to a different setting and making him the focus does not make for an interesting show for me. Plus I did not relate to his life experience the way so many others apparently did.

The only way I see that happening is if you fell in love in high school and married your high-school sweetheart or something like that? How is "trying to connect with people and looking for love" not relatable? I am asking in all seriousness - I really wonder. or is it the whole him being an actor and the show set in NYC that made it less retable for you?

The notion of connections to people is very broad and has little. I didn't really see the 1st season as a relationship show except for the episode I liked which I could identify with to some extent. If anything it had to do with Aziz struggling with life in general in NYC.

OK, so I'm doing a 180 on this
The "New York, I Love You" & "The Thief" episodes are ridiculously good, but I would say no episode dropped below and 8 for me.

New York I Love You was very good I agree, but I just missed Aziz too much. For me episode one (the Thief) is still the winner.

However, he seems nice so far= but I assume that means he's too nice to believe. I could watch a series on the deaf girl. I think a little Aziz can go a long way and one of the reasons I like the show much more this season is Aziz has figured out a way to be both irreverent and selfless. A lot of last season seemed like he flat out was indifferent to everyone around him. This season, he clearly loves and cares about everyone and the romance is way more realistic. You asked me how I couldn't identify with his romances in last season, but I totally get his experiences in this season.

I am still undecided on that one.
