And now you’ve changed how you feel? Or one day think to yourself, “how did I get here?”
Has anyone else done this with a franchise?
For example. I was obsessed with Snyder’s DCEU. Then, I thought to myself recently, “how did I get this obsessive over this film franchise?”
It all started when I loved Superman as a kid.
Then when “Superman Returns” was in production, I was all about the “spoilers” on the internet. On IMDb, getting the newest details. Then it came out and it was a little disappointing. I didn’t hate it like some, but it wasn’t satisfying.
Then the rumors of the sequels, etc... then it was shelved,
To make a very long story short, “Man of Steel” then went into production. I was so excited because I loved “300” and “Watchmen”. I followed the preproduction. Saw that WB was in a legal battle with the kids of the creators. That’s why they had No Jimmy, No Kryptonite and No red trunks. They thought they might lose some things in a court, so to be safe, they cut some traditional Superman tropes.
I liked it a lot. It still wasn’t everything I wanted it to be, but I liked the alien invasion angle. Then BvS was in production. Again. I wanted a “Man of Steel” trilogy like “The Dark Knight” but WB panicked when MoS didn’t make a billion, and threw Batman into the sequel.
Even still, I loved BvS the ultimate edition because it’s like a mix between “The Dark Knight Returns” and “The Death of Superman” as well as a MoS sequel and a JL prequel. It’s a dark mythological film.
Then we all know about the JL situation. I was so obsessed with Snyder getting his vision, I over hyped MoS and BvS just because I didn’t want a reboot and a lighter, MCU version of the DC characters.
The point I’m making is this. I was all for “RestoreTheSnyderVerse a week after ZSJL came out. Now, I’m just tired of fighting for something, obsessing over something, or thinking about something like this so much. It’s time to move on.
If they make more, great, I’ll watch it. If they don’t, I’m okay with it.
In reality, taking a step back and taking off my blinders:
A) Man of Steel wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be originally.
B) I never wanted a BvS, I wanted a grounded Superman trilogy like “The Dark Knight” for Superman, but instead got a shared universe.
C) I still like the Snyder DC universe for what it is. It wasn’t what I wanted initially, but it’s better than I thought it would be overall.
If I’m being honest, I’d have preferred the MoS stand alone trilogy. But it probably never going to happen now. So whatever.
TLDR; I was obsessed with the DC SnyderVerse, but now I’m not. I got into it for odd reasons and was obsessed with it, not realizing why I was so sucked into it. I really just like Superman.
