clearly doesn't mean much regarding whether a performance wins anymore. Alot of critics clearly oversold Bosemans death as a reasoning for why he'd win, clearly not thinking of someone like James Dean who couldn't win with two at all 0.0.

I mean it shouldn't. It should be based on who the academy members thought gave the best performance, death shouldn't factor into it.

People like to cite Peter Finch and Heath Ledger, but both of those performances are legendary.

I am still surprised he didn't win though. On top of dying right after an excellent performance, he was black too.

I mean it shouldn't. It should be based on who the academy members thought gave the best performance, death shouldn't factor into it. it shouldn't, but sometimes will ultimately factor in. Finch died very briefly before the ceremony, Ledger had good swell of support plus his performance, so dying tipped that over pretty much.

I am saying because he had 2 things going for the win. This Oscars was about the women more than race though I guess. what?. Here was my reasoning as to why I thought he was most likely to win. Last year being what it was with the race politics, the Oscars history of picking wins for political reasons and the fact the Chadewick Boseman received a ton of praise, gave an excellent performance and died young. My comment about women was only half-serious. Nomadland winning, a female director winning, a female screenwriter winning and this is the first time 2 women have been nominated in the directing category. I was off-base with Boseman obviously, but those are the reasons I expected him to win. You seem to be surprised he didn't win too, since you even made a post jokingly accusing the Oscars of trolling. Why do you think social media is upset he didn't win? Because he died? No, because he was black AND died young.

I made that post because they clearly moved the chairs around without looking at the ballots thinking basically Boseman would win and we'd get a sweet moment, and instead lol Hopkins happened. Mind you Olivia Colman was supposed to accept the award for Hopkins but they cut abruptly instead, clearly they were embarassed by their snafu.

As much as I despise social media, I’m willing to assume that people would’ve been less outraged if they hadn’t saved the acting award for last, just so they could milk their tribute to Boseman.
