No, this board watch trash commercial Hollywood films. I watch intelligent Russian films from USSR era. Some do, but many do like intelligent movies from any country. POST some intelligent threads, and you'll see less trash commercial Hollywood film talk. People can only reply to what someone else posts.
I loved "The Cranes Are Flying", a 10/10.. Some other Russian movies, "The Ascent", etc.
Yes, Cranes are Flying wonderful Soviet film.

I was influenced by that mslov79 guy or whatever his name was who got banned. His detailed length posts that meticulously went through his rating system on various movies did influence me to judge those movies in a more stricter light.

Oh man, I remember him talking about movies a lot... Do you know why he got banned? This is the only board I post at, although I've checked out the Music one and posted a couple a week ago or so.

After many years reading and posting on both imdb and now imdb2, I've jotted down countless recommendations of films to watch, and followed many of them up. Last weekend I watched a film instantaneously after it was recommended by gw on a different board and glad I did. This is a large part of why I spend so much time here, I'm always learning and picking up new ideas, writing down new titles to pursue (I still use bic biros because I'm old school). It's an even more valuable resource to me today, as the older I get, the more discerning I become, and the less time I have, so I need recs, conversation and a helping hand if possible, especially when it comes to 21st century movies.

If you ever want recommendations, I'd be more than happy to give them to you (or anyone else)... I'm at the point where I have no one to talk about the movies I like, but don't have much popularity.

I've seen you conversing with different people here, including myself. Your threads often get loads of replies! I'm sure there's plenty more conversation to be had, we just all need to continue contributing. And I do note down recommendations drawn from your threads; just recently I looked up several titles I'd never heard of, if memory recalls, I think one was a film directed by Henning Carlsen ... yes, it's called 'Hunger' (1966) and sounds interesting.
I'd also like to see Vittorio De Sica's 'The Roof' (1956) which you've listed as one of your favourites. And I looked up Hussein Kamal's 'Adrift On The Nile' (1971) which I'd never heard of before. Not heard of 'His Days Are Numbered' (1962), or 'Cairo Station' (1958), I don't think. Never seen 'Woman In The Dunes' (1964) which is out of print here in the U K, or any of the director's movies which are often mentioned by horror fans. This was just on one recent thread, so I do read your thoughts and views regularly, and I do appreciate them.

Thank you.. You're one of a few I can tell just by the avatar (and name) that you have fine taste, and I've added probably a handful of movies onto my IMDB watch-list, but I wish I would have organized them better (where I got them from, for example).
I do love those movies. None of them are 10/10, but many of those are movies film buffs usually know... As much as I love "The Roof", he has a handful of better ones, but I think he's the master of masterpieces. I went to visit my nieces yesterday, and saw parts of a back-to-back on TCM -- "Two Women" and "Umberto D" and man, they're so great. His movies really move you. I also notice an affinity I have for his characters, and I also notice how hard it is to like a movie when no character is likable... You saw "Buffalo '66", right? Unique movie, and one of a few that's "newer".
YouTube used to have "Woman in the Dunes", and there are sites to find subtitles. I also think "Adrift on the Nile" is on archives.org
I might have mentioned this tip, but if you don't see a movie you desire on YouTube, go on Google.com, and say you wanted "Buffalo '66"... In the search box, type in "Buffalo '66 -youtube" and then click on the VIDEO filter, this way you get all the search results NOT on YouTube.. These little search "tricks" can bring up some really amazing rare stuff.
Anyway, I'd love to read your thoughts, reviews, or even just a score to see what you think. I get a lot of happiness when I recommend something that others love, but I'm not bothered if someone doesn't like them -- its like food. We all have our tastes.

Thanks! I enjoy all sorts of movies, from all nations and eras, some are better than others, but I'm open to seeing new things. I'm mostly a genre fan though. I don't watch a lot of heavy arthouse dramas about peoples' lives, I'll usually watch a crime movie, or a comedy, or a horror movie ...
And thanks for the tips for looking online, I'll keep them in mind. Lots of nice youtube channels sprang up during the pandemic to keep people afloat, screening older movies that are in the public domain, often in beautiful prints.
I sometimes get as much enjoyment readig the comments section as I do seeing the movie being screened. Right now, I'm digging the spaghetti westerns screening on youtube channels like Kult, Gringo, and Film & Clips. I see people posting thanks from all over the world, from all walks of life, thanking the channel providers and saying these westerns have kept them going through lockdowns. That's the power of cinema, right there.

I also love reading the comments, but I don't see many on the movies I see on there via YouTube... LUCKILY, there are a couple of movie forums like this who saved the entire IMDB movie comments, and allows current users to add on top of them. There's always at least one or more comments on even the very rare movies.
