It might be hard to know, but try to think of your favorite 50-100 movies before joining this place, and then trying to see where you are at now. Even without message boards, chances are we all grow, anyway, but it could be accelerated here, and getting to know people and their tastes might help us pivot.
I'm sure I have, but maybe not on a large extent. I seem to watch recommendations from those who's tastes are similar to mine on here, and if I see something I haven't seen, I think "Chances are I'll like it". I'm constantly adding to my IMDB watch-list, which has risen to almost 3,000, but there are many I can't distinguish from how or where the recommendations came from. I do note those who have recommended me great movies, and I definitely expedite their suggestions, many times more than my own, since I'm very indecisive lately, and very quick to turn off a movie within 20-30 minutes (like today). I'm easily distracted by the news, this board (lol), and other things.
It just hit me that I do actually seem to watch movies I'd probably never hear of after seeing a review, or even a poster that has a woman who has a peculiar face. I'm thinking of movies made this century, but I notice they're all from outside of the US.

On some level, yes.
Obviously listening to other people's perspective and recommendations is going to have an effect to whatever extent.
Have my 100 favorite movies changed much after I started using IMDB 2? No, but my top 500 has.

Sometimes, like if someone mentions a film I never heard of and it piques my interest.

Catman has added movies and series to his watchlist based on what others have posted.

Oh sure. I pick viewing ideas. And sometimes something is said which makes me think differently about a movie etc.

Probably a few films here and there, I was aware of that may have got pushed further up my watchlist or added to it. petrolino and yourself got me to fast-track Visconti for example and dirtypillows tireless championing of 3 Women led me to check it out earlier than I otherwise may have. No regrets on either account. There may have been a couple of films I was completely unaware of, but can't think of any specific examples. My overall taste hasn't changed though.

Hard to say. I can think of a few moments where I gained appreciation for a film after hearing someone else explain a point of view about it I hadn’t considered before...but I don’t think there’s been a major shift in taste necessarily.

The Internet itself and trawling through online forums (both here and elsewhere) has certainly had a major impact on my knowledge and awareness of movies and my choice of titles to focus on. I wouldn't say the boards have had much influence on my taste in films - which has evolved independently of my online activities - but without these kinds of forums there are likely many movies I would otherwise never have paid much attention to or been aware of.

Have found lots of interesting movie recommendations in here, where as the last one, which turned out to be a big success, were the Christopher Reeve drama, Somewhere in Time (1980), just a few weeks ago. Never heard of it, until a thread included it, either in the General Discussion or Film General section. However, my favorite place to go, is the Horror and Thriller section, as it is a nice place to get news and be updated on recent horror and thriller DVD/Blu-rays being released.

I wonder if people watch older movies who were only exposed to newer ones? If so, which ones did you like before, and which older movies did you like. How was that transition?

In terms of my taste in movies, I don't think so - but there are many movies and TV shows that I only found out about and watched because of recommendations I read here.

No, this board watch trash commercial Hollywood films. I watch intelligent Russian films from USSR era. Some do, but many do like intelligent movies from any country. POST some intelligent threads, and you'll see less trash commercial Hollywood film talk. People can only reply to what someone else posts.
I loved "The Cranes Are Flying", a 10/10.. Some other Russian movies, "The Ascent", etc.

I've had a few good recommendations, but overall, IMDb's movie boards were better at that just because it had a wider membership.
