I’m so sick of “Reboots”, “Remakes”, “All CGI Special Effects”, “Preachy”, “Over Bloated” “”Uninspired” movies of this Century. Could people please suggest films I should watch pre-2000? I’ve decided I’m not going to watch any newer films until I’m over this feeling. There are literally THOUSANDS of amazing films made in in the 20th Century I probably haven’t seen, and want to. I have Turner Classic Movies on HBO Max, and I will gladly rent any films I find interesting. I’m also looking at the AFI top 100 as a reference. Any suggestions? PS. I’m starting this journey tonight with “Annie Hall”. (1977) I love “Midnight in Paris” (one of the few refreshing films of this previous decade)... so I thought I’d give Woody Allen a shot...

I don’t believe it’s on HBO Max, but if you haven’t already seen it, you could try The Magnificent Ambersons.

It's such a weird film, and Malcom McDowell and Natassja Kinkski are brilliantly cast.

I'm going through an Orson Welles phase here lately, you cannot go wrong with Citizen Kane, The Magnificent Ambersons, or Touch of Evil. All three are must-see if you've never seen them.
I've never seen The Third Man, a film that Welles appeared in, but didn't direct, but TCM is showing it tomorrow night. I'll be watching, maybe you should as well. I've heard nothing but good things about it.
Anyhow, hope you enjoy Annie Hall, it's a great one. There's a lot of good Woody Allen films, most definitely check out his catalog.

What a great fucking post. I know exactly how you feel, so I feel there's a great chance you'll like these:
Harry and Tonto La Strada Nashville One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest They Shoot Horses, Don't They? The Battle of Algiers Network The Treasure of the Sierra Madre A Woman Under the Influence Buffalo '66
A handful of them are on YouTube (in full, for free)

Hbo Max has some good Kurosawa samurai films and older westerns.
I’ll recommend The Searchers with John Wayne.

Late Spring [1949, Japan]
Ordet [1955, Denmark]
L'Avventura [1960, Italy]
Also, there are plenty of post-2000 films made outside Hollywood that would have a similar "palate cleansing" effect.
