How many Kubricks, Hitchcocks or early Spielbergs have you seen? If the answer is none then start here! I still need to see “A Clockwork Orange”

What about some animated movies you never saw as a child?

Yeah this is helpful. That’s awesome. The IMDB Top 250 is a good place to start for great movies made before 2000. My favorite movie is The Silence of the Lambs.

An excellent example of the post-2000 films I was talking about, pretty much the antithesis of a modern "Hollywood Blockbuster".

Midnight Lace (1960 Hitchcock style thriller with Doris Day and Rex Harrison)
Pulp (1972 crime comedy with Michael Caine and Mickey Rooney)
Dragons Forever (Wonderful 1987 Hong Kong slapstick action comedy with Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung). One of Chan's best films.
Finnegan Begin Again (1980's TV movie romantic comedy with Robert Preston and Mary Tyler Moore). I love the rhyming title.
Rabbit Test (1978 comedy with pre-stardom Billy Crystal as the world's first pregnant man). Directed by Joan Rivers. Michael Keaton (pre-stardom) also has a small role in it.
Amos (1985 TV movie with Kirk Douglas as an elderly man in a retirement home who stands up for himself against abusive nurse Elizabeth Montgomery). Ray Walston and Pat Morita also star. I loved this movie when it was on in the 1980's.

Full Moon in Blue Water. Lesser known romantic comedy from 1988 with Gene Hackman and Teri Garr.

The 1960s films (features and shorts) of Pierre Etaix. I'd never seen him even mentioned in film reference books or anywhere else; until recently, these films were unavailable due to legal issues. TCM devoted an entire day to his films within the last decade, and Criterion released them in a set. The films are reminiscent of Chaplin/Keaton/Tati comedies in style, and Etaix was a fine comic actor.

Some of my personal favorites, many of which have been mentioned already. By the way I’m in the same boat. I literally only saw one film from the ones up for consideration for the major Oscars this year (Chicago 7).
All the Presidents Men Lawrence of Arabia Seven Days in May Vertigo Rear Window Bullitt Vanishing Point Two Lane Blacktop The Ten Commandments Spartacus Three Days of the Condor Only Angels Have Wings Scarface (1932) Sand Pebbles It Happened One Night 55 Days in Peking Cast a Giant Shadow Lonely are the Brave Omega Man
These are just Hollywood films, I left out foreign films although I have plenty of favorites.
