this might be my favorite of the John Hughes teen films I have seen (Have yet to see Pretty in Pink). With the exception of the sterotypical 80s bully character (who honestly adds to the charm of these type of films) the characters feel real and human. The performances from the three leads are great, and even the main adult character, the dad, is portrayed more sympathetically than the other Hughes films. Overall a hidden gem when it comes to 80s teen movies or even 80s movies in general. PS: Craig Sheffer in this movie looks like if you put Josh Brolin and Patrick Swayze in a blender, and Lea Thompson in her prime

I've never understood why this movie isn't more appreciated, it's one of the best of its genre.

Lea Thompson in her prime Yeah but shes always been beautiful. She around 60 now and looks as stunning as ever in my opinion.

I do prefer PinP but still love Some Kind of Wonderful. Arguably SKofW has a better soundtrack. As soon as they opened with that Propaganda track - one of my fave 80s bands - they had me.

I love it. I always had a crush on Watts tho. And Duncan is such a great supporting character.

I've never understood why this movie isn't more appreciated, it's one of the best of its genre. Because it was released after Pretty In Pink which more or less told the same story (albeit with a different ending).

I’d take Watts over Amanda.

I’d take Watts over Amanda. I still think Lea Thompson is beautiful but yea...I had a soft spot for Watts.

And an awesome Elias Koteas character.

And an awesome Elias Koteas character. Hughes, the writer, was unhappy his intended ending for Pretty In Pink was changed after test audiences didn't like it. It was the principle reason he wrote Some Kind of Wonderful with Pretty In Pink's ending reinstated. Many (including Ebert) considered it the superior film. It's been so long since I've seen either I can't really remember which I preferred.
