I don't want to sound like a dick but I've got little to no interest in cinema before 1950. It's just a personal choice. Movies from those eras seem really dated. You don't necessarily sound like a dick. More like a typical millennial. Smug, ignorant, pathetically self absorbed yet oddly pompous about being so embarrassingly clueless to anything that occurred before you were born. And you're a delusional, ignorant, pretentious retard. Like I said in my previous post, I choose not to watch those films because I have no interest in them. It's my personal choice. Ignorance is bliss I guess. So I couldn't care any less about what you think, cunt.

I should point out if you actually didn't care about my salient observations you wouldn't have responded. The angry way you did respond reveals your true feelings. I'm glad you're blissful in your ignorance at least.

If I actually cared, I would change my stance on movies before 1950. But I don't care about what you think, you old depressed cunt. Those are my true feelings.

I've seen at least 60 of them. It's possible nay probable that I've seen others on the list at least once but don't recognize the title from quickly reading the list. I'll need to do a search on the titles I'm not sure of and see what the plot was and who is in the cast to confirm or eliminate the remaining titles for an accurate and final answer. I don't want to be disingenuous.
For the moment tho I've definitely seen 60 of them. Nice list by the way. Some of my all time favorites are there including one of my top 5 favorites which should be obvious to anyone who has seen it that can use deductive reasoning. It's bizarre to me that anyone who claims to love movies hasn't seen at least a handful of these movies. WTF is up with that?

Many people don't like the style of movies made before a certain time period, because of content restrictions, lack of color, more theatrical styles of acting etc. They are too different than what they are use to. They have narrow taste. That isn't meant to be an insult, just a fact. Loving to watch movies isn't the same thing as loving cinema.

They have narrow taste. That isn't meant to be an insult, just a fact. Loving to watch movies isn't the same thing as loving cinema. also, consider people who grew up outside of the us and furthermore in a non english speakingh country. we simply watched the old movies from our own countries in our own language more often or at least first simply by exposure. None of these movies were in the cinema in the 90ties when I was growing up and tv simply didnt focus so much on US movies from the 30s at all. Maybe more from the 50s since I remember watching Singing in the rain to no end when I was a kid. And there was no Netflix no streaming services and if one went to a vhs place to rent a movie I mean yeah, at that time I would have picked up I dunno, Pulp Fiction over Pygmalion... (but I did watch My Fair Lady a bunch of times)... and regarding cinematography as art and learning from old movies I think in Europe those people would often look more toward European directors first and would watch the Bunuels, Eisensteins and Cocteaus of the world. I wonder how many Americans knew of Un Chien Andalou before American movies from the same time period for example.. So I think a lot of it is about where you grow up. Geographically as well as culturally speaking.

zero. so which ones should i start with? I am thinking Pygmalion, KingKong and Wizzard of the Oz. The Black Cat should be first. Then watch the other Universal Horror movies. They are all relatively short i.e. 90 minutes or less in most cases so you can get many essential movies watched in an afternoon. Then you could either consult a list like the numerous AFI top 100 lists or watch the movies that are in your favorite genre whatever that might be (fantasy?) or that feature your favorite actors. Altho since you seem to have only watched movies from this century or that were made in Belgium that might not work. On the bright side, you've seen every movie Jean Claude Van Damme has made.
