Blus A-Z, MCU blus chrono, Wes Anderson blu Criterions chrono.
Disney DVDs chrono, franchise DVDs (Star Wars, POTC, etc) chrono. The rest of my DVDs alpha. I do have my Christmas DVDs in viewing preference order - Home Alone is fine in Nov, the classics nearer the 25th.
TV DVD alpha. Special Interest (animateds, sports, etc) not really in order but series kept together.

At the moment, by release order. Starting with the oldest movie in my collection (Wild and Woolly, 1917) and ending with the most recent (Star Wars 9, 2019). My TV show library is also by airing order.
In the past, I had them arranged chronologically by setting.

I used to organise them alphabetically, but it became too much hassle due to the volume of the damn things I came to possess and lack of space.
These days I have no proper system of organising them. I do try to group my horror movies separately from my non-horror ones, but even there you'll encounter some intermingling.
Been purchasing a lot more often from iTunes since the pandemic began and that has radically reduced my frequency of new DVD and Blu Ray purchases.

Its not really. I keep series together and the rest are just randomly put on the shelves.

Y'all are kidding, right?
When we had VHS tapes we had a little 4 shelf rack for them, the top row was for our Disney movies with the big clamshell cases, and my mom's tapes she recorded of Princess Diana's funeral, and a few movies we recorded off HBO and Cinemax, the second shelf was all our Christmas movies, and the bottom two shelves were all my dad's movies.
Switching to DVDs, he has his all on two huge shelves, we keep Law & Order mishmashed together on one shelf, and the rest are all assorted.

Some by actors Some by genre Some by resale value
Blu-rays and DVDs separate
New purchases and those likely to be rewatched lined up in front, less likely to be immediately watched lined up behind Rest stored out of sight, out of mind in separate cabinet
It's not a perfect system.

Jimmy Cagney has his own shelf (along with a framed picture). Then a shelf for mysteries; another for musicals; foreign films; and silent comedies. Then hundreds more randomly stored in boxes (DVDs and VHS not released on DVD).

First by country (although some British titles are probably mixed up with American ones).
Then I have a section for very well-known directors, like Kubrick, Scorsese, Spielberg, Tarantino, Woody Allen.
I also have a section for series of movies - James Bond, Die Hard, Lord of the Rings, Mission Impossible and so on.
Some genres I’ve managed to organise pretty well - comedies, westerns, war movies, historical movies.
Everything else is pretty much randomly, which often makes it difficult to locate a particular title.

Most of my discs have been transferred to plastic sleeves that hold the art work and discs and are stored in boxes...
DVDs/Bluray: Alphabetical
Then sub sections: Certain directors - Carpenter, Kubrick, Hitchcock, Kurosawa, Woo etc MCU Jackie Chan Asian cinema B-Movie/Cult/Grindhouse Bonds TV Drama TV comedy Stand-Up Comedy Music
Stuff still in cases/boxes: DVD box sets on shelves in spare room
Rest in alphabetical order - there are sub groups by label (Arrow, Criterion, Studio canal etc), John Carpenter, Steelbooks

I have no order personally. Years and years ago I loved buying DVDs and VHSs. I bought everything. Good movie, bad movies, whatever in between, etc. Now I just regret it all. They do nothing but take up space. I’d like to get rid of 70% of what I have. I feel bad just throwing them out though. I can’t see putting in the effort to sell them as I’m pretty sure DVDs and VHSs are almost worthless now. So maybe one day I’ll get rid of them, but for now they sit taking up space.

Genre. But there are some awkward transitions and movies that don’t really fit anywhere. Like The Prestige. Great movie. But I never know where to place it in my Blu Ray collection. Sci fi? Period piece? Where?!

Genre. But there are some awkward transitions and movies that don’t really fit anywhere. Like The Prestige. Great movie. But I never know where to place it in my Blu Ray collection. Sci fi? Period piece? Where?! I can sure relate to that, as I am having a bit of "trouble", sorting out my movie collection these days. Not an easy job, but finally got through the entire horror collection, which I had to take a few breaks, every now and then, for some days, then my motivation returned, and finished it off. It is still not in "perfect" order, but when will it ever be? I guess that is the price of being a movie and music collecter. Anyway, there sure a few of these quirky ones, which I often tend to feel just do not belong, anywhere, but like a puzzle, I feel it should be done with, so sooner or later, they will just have to be stuffed in, even if the genre is all wrong. And why worry, it is only I, who will notice it.

Back when I used to have a DVD/Blu-ray collection of well over 800, I'd go boxsets first by size, then by boutique distributor (Criterion, Scream Factory etc), then by franchise (Marvel, James Bond etc), then chronologically by director, genre, etc. Luckily I was an early adaptor to digital, I was building my iTunes movie library since the first movie I ever bought with the code insert so the conversion to digital was really painless for me, as most of my movie collection were already in my iTunes. Also before my friends accepted digital was the way things were going I'd just ask them for their code inserts and add them to my collection. Now, my physical movie library sits around 50-60, a few box sets, a few Scream Factory, like 3 Criterions, some DVD's I keep for sentimentality, and the few 4K Ultra Blu-rays I impulse bought when I got a 4K TV/disc player. There's no organization to them, they're just stuffed in a storage cube under my speaker stands.
