What did everyone think of this 2-season series?
I thought that parts, especially the mystery of Season 1, were absolutely thrilling and fantastic entertainment. The big scope and ambition of the reveal, overall arch of the show I really liked as well, and is what kept me watching until the end.
Everything else was...weird, and not in a good way. Outside of the main one-two protagonists, and Pilcher, none of the other characters were really interesting. The plot holes of how they did things and the decisions they made aren't even worth getting into, you could write a novel just based on the logic gaps alone. The message or theme of the show was also a bit...hopeless? I mean the whole thing was a bunch of random, deluded people desperately trying to survive....I guess the main message at the end was "saving the human race if it's not run humanely is not really worth it" ? I don't know. I felt like it hinted or tried to go into different directions every one and a while, but then never really did so.
Yet it ended in an interesting way, and despite how muddy it got in Season 2, I still wanted to find out more, learn more about that world.
A mixed bag for sure.

If the original cast had stayed on for Season 2, it would have done a lot better. The show was intended to only run for one season originally.

I just finished watching Season 1 of Wayward Pines on DVD last night. It started off a bit annoyingly similar to other shows I've seen - weird town with weird characters acting weirdly and the show's 'hero' getting frustrated with the weirdness and asking questions nobody wants to answer. However, I was surprised by what happened at the end of episode 2, then even more by the end of episode 3 - I think that's where it got a bit more interesting for me. It felt like there was some actual forward momentum and not just a bunch of strange goings on.
Probably halfway through the season was when I started getting into it more (I binge-watched the show in roughly a week). By the end of the season, I was quite into it. One thing I liked was that the humour in the show was somewhat 'unexpected' in a way. Like, more often than not everyone seemed rather serious, but then there'd be this random humourous line or moment thrown in out of seemingly nowhere - I liked that. So many shows are so 'obvious' with their humour (even going so far as to have music playing in the background that practically screams "This is a funny scene!") and I get sick of that.
So, given how Season 1 ended...I am kind of curious about what happens in Season 2, but I read comments on the IMDB board for the show as well as here about how Season 2's...not so great. So is it really not worth checking out, even to see where the story goes? And does Season 2 end on a cliffhanger? Because if it does, maybe it would be better for me to just stop watching the series at the end of Season 1. Does anyone here wish they could 'unsee' Season 2 - is it that bad? I'm just trying to weigh up whether it's worth getting Season 2 on DVD eventually or not.

I enjoyed Season 1, a lot. It felt complete. I didn't bother with Season 2 since I heard the original team were not returning. Okay, tell a lie, I watched five minutes with it and it seemed to be making new stuff up so knew it wasn't my cup of tea.

I think I'll leave it for now, and if Season 2 is ever really cheap on DVD (like Season 1 was when I bought it), I might check it out then...maybe.

Thought Season 1 was decent, only saw one and a bit episodes of Season 2. Jason Patric is terrible in the lead role in S2, couldn't stick with it.
