the sequel to Friday the 13th coming out just one year after the original. It's a pretty standard slasher movie with poor acting and honestly becomes kind of comical near the end. Still there are enough fun kills and nudity if you like that sort of thing. Notable that Jason doesn't have his iconic hockey mask and wears a literal sack over his head. Also, spawned one of the most hilarious Siskel and Ebert reviews where they are flat out angry at the film and seem to think it represents the downfall of society

Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review:
Friday The 13th Part 2 (1981) - BOMB out of 4 stars
"More nubile campers, more bloody executions. If you loved Part 1..."

I dont get it, isn't he just a regular (albight deformed) human in this one but he can still get take stabbings/beatings and survive like Jason Voorhess (who isn't a normal human being). At least in the later ones it makes more sense (he's bascially a ressurected zombie)

I still think it's the best Friday sequel by far. And it was nice to finally be able to see that lost gory footage, thanks to Scream Factory.

It would be fair to consider that it wasn't a standard kind of slasher when it came out as the slasher boom had only just started. It was responsible for the creation of Jason Voorhees as an iconic horror villain. The plot thread of Jason creating a shrine of his mother's severed head and the final girl using that to intimidate him is quite a cool invention.

Not the best of the sequels, but as a fan of this franchise, I enjoy it. Sack-head Jason is creepy...until he gets clumsy during the climax.

I never liked the Friday the 13th series. It got interesting when they brought in the psychic girl--that one was at least different but I didn't think the first one was much except for the scary lake scene. It feels like the least ambitious-and when they did the Jason turning into the Thing--that one was out to lunch. I saw Jason X as well but can't remember much about it. Halloween series had Laurie and Loomis so there was some character connection-and Freddie had the personality and Jon Saxon and Heather Langenkamp appeared but Jason is the least of the three. I assume the hockey mask was inspired by the Road Warrior. Sack-head Jason was not going to be an iconic image.
Siskel and Ebert clearly liked the movie enough to talk about it. Unless they were paid to do so.
They stopped doing Dog of the Week by then.

My favorite of the sequels, but I'm pretty sure I stopped at part 5. I still love part 1 and 2 the best. The very early '80s just pushed all the right buttons for the ambiance for slasher films.

Wasn't Sackhead Jason inspired from the killer from "The Town that Dreaded Sundown"?

Hillbilly Jason breaks through the window and attacks sweet Ginny. Next, it’s morning and she’s wheeled out on a stretcher. Was a crucial scene not filmed? We don’t see what happens to Jason, Paul, or even Ginny. It’s like Sarah Connor being attacked by The Terminator and it just cuts to her being put in an ambulance.

I do think there was some issue between Paul and the production if I remember correctly. They had a dispute and I think he walked out...so they weren’t able to wrap up his character properly.

Well, it's the only one from the series that I own on Blu-ray.

I used to like it, but my opinion has shifted after a re-watch back in 2019. I now see that it's not a particularly good slasher. The characters are bland, the pacing slow and Jason himself proves to be a big disappointment. He grows more intimidating in subsequent instalments, especially after his resurrection. As a mortal man wearing a burlap sack, however, the creep factor is low. He just doesn't seem all that formidable. He's not yet an unstoppable beast. And the film lacks the original's dynamic final act, featuring as it did that wonderfully deranged performance from Betsy Palmer. Two elements I did like were the dilapidated cabin in the woods, the mother's severed head and the suggestions of mental illness.
The Burning - which was released around the same time but is far less famous - massively outclassed this film.
