So I want to like Rick and Morty.
It is the type of thing I have liked before and will like in the future.
But I could barely make it to the credits of the opening episode...it seemed like a one note joke that has been told before.
I am a big fan of shows like It's Always Sunny, Community or The I.T. Crowd where each individual episode might not be amazing, but the amazing episodes are always worth making sure you watch the whole series. And I am not opposed to watching the best episode in order to get me hooked, and then going back...(On comedies mostly)
So what is the best episode of Rick and Morty?
Like I said, I want to like it, and I have caught clips here and there that hint at better things, but that opening sequence did not give me high hopes.

Maybe it's not for you. I started hearing about Rick and Morty and decided to watch the first episode on Netflix. I was instantly hooked and it didn't take long for me to watch the first two seasons.

And I am willing to accept that being the case...
But I want to give it the best shot I can.
So what is the best episode?

The first episode is not one of my favorites but if you had a hard time watching it the show probably isn't for you. That's too bad because it's brilliant. Easily one of the best animated shows in recent memory. Hell one of the best ever.
It's hard and irrelevant for me to tell you my favorites because it would just be MY favorites. To be honest the only real dud IMO is Interdimensional Cable 2 which revisited a hilarious premise from Season 1. Conversely Rixty Minutes the episode it rips off is perfection. You may want to give it a watch or Total Rickall which is also perfect. My friend who got me hooked on the show loves Meeseeks and Destroy so perhaps give that one a try as well.
If you don't like any of those or even one of those then the awesomeness of Rick and Morty is not for you. I will resist throwing out a jab by suggesting you watch Family Guy instead.

Like I said, I want to like it, but am prepared for it to just not be my thing.
But off the bat, it seemed like the only joke is how awful Rick is. And once you tell that joke, there's nothing left. "Oh look! Rick is being awful again!!! This time with a balloon! Oh and see how befuddled Morty gets!"
"It's Always Sunny" is that same joke, but there are 5 people to work through of differing levels from episode to episode. Plus live action acting cartoonishly awful is different than actual cartoons acting cartoonishly awful.
It's why I like the dichotomy that shows up so often in Adventure Time, where cartoons act more mundane or acknowledge the ridiculousness of the situation from time to time.

Adventuretime was so excruciatingly annoying I couldn't make it through one episode. Rick is pretty much a jerk but that's far from being all there is to the show. I don't get the comparisons to It's Always Sunny at all. I'm a Sunny fan but R&M is so much smarter of a show it seems pointless to measure them by the same yardstick.
