Takes X-Men and turns it into a dumb action movie. Crams two interesting storylines (the Cure for mutants and the Phoenix saga) and crams it together in a single 97 minute sans credit movie. Mutants are thrown at the screen one after another with no development. Cyclops is unceremoniously killed off early on (they really hated him for some reason since he also had only a minor role in X2). Professor X is also killed off for some reason. This movie along with many of the other Fox Marvel movies showed they just had no respect for audiences or the fans. The same writer would go on to attempt the Dark Phoenix saga again with arguably even worse results. though that doesn't somehow make The Last Stand good. amazing score from John Powell though

Bloated mess (still less terrible than Spider-man 3 though). The film definetly felt rushed and overblown, just too much happening at one. Contrast it with "Logan" (which people overwhelmingly agree was better). Pretty simple straightforward plot, not a super ton of major characters, doesn't try and throw everything but the kitchen sink at you.

6/10. Not a great ending for the initial trilogy. Perhaps if they kept the cure storyline and removed the Dark Phoenix element, it’d been more focused. But I still do like the action and some of the returning cast kept my interest. I friggin loved Kelsey Grammer as Beast. I wish he stuck around longer than just that cameo in DOFP.

A lot of people blame any of the film's problems on director Brett Ratner.

The Last Stand was a product of a no-win situation. X2 teased the "Dark Phoenix" storyline so by not doing it would have disappointed some fans, but making it a B-story to the "Cure" storyline was probably a greater disappointment. Then, cramming a lot of characters makes the film feel crowded, which takes attention away from Rogue who was under utilized for most of the trilogy. Other than that, some action set pieces like the third act battle and Kelsey Grammer as Beast were highlights.

A lot of people blame any of the film's problems on director Brett Ratner. Well that wouldn’t be completely fair. Yeah I’m sure he didn’t help tye situation but based on what I’ve read this was basically a studio driven production

A lot of people blame any of the film's problems on director Brett Ratner. Brett Ratner was essentially a last-minute hire, and pre-production was already a mess by the time he had signed on. I really wished they had kept Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty's story outline since it read more like a continuation of the first two films, but apparently, 20th Century Fox didn't like it feeling it was too dark. Then, screenwriters Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn come in and want to keep the "Dark Phoenix" storyline, but compromise to have it work as a subplot to the "Cure" storyline. In the end, Kinberg was not pleased with how it turned out and tries another hand at it years later.

First X-Men movie I saw in theaters. It's a big step down from the first two, but a decent movie overall, in my opinion. Too many flaws to work as a whole, but there's some good stuff in there.

Kelsey Grammer was good in it.
But it shows the problem with franchise stories--nothing is permanent.
Was this the first Marvel comic movie with a post credit scene?

A lot of people blame any of the film's problems on director Brett Ratner. Which shouldn't really be the case, all of it really traces back to then FOX head honcho Tom Rothman.

I don't think I have ever watched that to the end of the credits. What's the post-credit scene? I can't see it being mentioned.

The second instalment was so good that the follow-up was always going to be a big challenge.
I like aspects of the movie. The battle scene in San Francisco is fun, for example. As an action movie, it ain't bad.
Not a huge fan of the cure storyline though. The idea that being a mutant is a burden that so many have to live with is such a major theme in the first two films. By introducing a magical cure to this predicament, it completely changes the dynamic. Being a mutant is now a free choice. No one has to learn to accept the way they are and fight for wider social acceptance when they can just take a injection and become human again instead. It misses the point of the original conundrum.
And the Phoenix subplot was just weird. No idea where it came from or what it was about really (I don't read the comics).

Blade kills a vampire who wants to get a lap dance and a bite to eat. Is that the scene where a Blade goes “you didn’t think I forgot about you?” I swear that was right before the credits
