The Eternals are getting a movie that will probably be a big hit, but for the New Gods, it looks like Zack Snyder’s Justice League is all that we’re going to get for the foreseeable future. I don’t think Ava DuVernay was the right person for the movie, but a New Gods film had a lot of potential. It’s too bad.

There's a lot of projects they announced that I thought would had been cool to see, even New Gods. But hey, at least we're getting that Hourman movie.

What narrative conflict she should have been able to put the characters from the Snyder cut into her movie.

I heard something like that back when it was announced that the project was canceled, but I don’t know if I buy it. DuVernay and Tom King were supposedly working on the movie for about three years, yet no major news came out of it. I have an easier time believing that WB and DC Films simply lost interest in the project, and used the Snyder Cut as an excuse.

1) The Eternals are getting a movie that will probably be a big hit, 2) don’t think Ava DuVernay was the right person for the movie, 1) True, and again Marvel beats DC to the punch. The Eternals and the New Gods both were created by Jack Kirby, The New Gods at D.C. first. But dammit of MCU doesn't do a better job and have more faith in their characters! 2) That's the god news here IMO. She's a great filmmaker, but absolutely the wrong person for this particular job. I would LOVE Zack Snyder to do his version of the New Gods. Probably never happen though.

The Eternals movie apparently didn’t turn out so great, so I might have made a misjudgment when I said that back in May.

Actually I think this is what really happened: It was put into development hell on purpose. I don't think they were ever really going to make the movie. There's all sorts of business reasons why they might want to tie up a creator on a project that is not ever going to get made. It fulfills contractual obligations without spending millions on a real budget. A few years from now they'll get some hack we've never heard of, someone cheaper and more malleable, to make a "meh" version of it.

I remember a rumor about Peter Jackson a few years ago. Or maybe they could snatch up Scott Derrickson like they did James Gunn.

I don’t see Scott Derrickson being a good choice for that.
