Do you want to know how misguided IL RAGAZZO INVISIBILE (THE INVISIBLE BOY) is? A teenager named Michele Silenzi discovers that he can become undetectable to the human eye.
4/10
Although IL RAGAZZO INVISIBILE (THE INVISIBLE BOY) had clichés, it also had a good number of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Not to mention that superhero origin stories are allowed to be low on action, since we know that the sequel will make up for it. IL RAGAZZO INVISIBILE: SECONDA GENERAZIONE (THE INVISIBLE BOY: SECOND GENERATION) spends most of its running time with boring conversations and clichéd non-action scenes. Why is Yelena (Michele's biological mother) being a villain treated like a plot twist, when the ending of the 1st installment made it clear (hence why I'm not hiding it as a spoiler)? When it comes to re-casting roles, you have to pay attention to the character's distinct physical traits. That way, you can make the new actor look like the original one even if their facial structure is different. In the case of Andrej (Michele's biological father), Hristo Živkov had long curly hair, but Ivan Franek doesn't. Sure, you can argue that he cut his hair, but what about the flashbacks that take place during the 1st movie? Give the man a wig, for Christ's sake!

Not long after that, he takes his clothes off and goes inside the girls' locker room. You might say that it's normal for boys his age and that anyone would do that in that situation. Well, we also find out that he records Stella Morrison (his crush) with his cellphone while hiding. OK, that's stalker behavior no matter the age. Is all of this unforgiveable? Maybe not, but this young man in particular doesn't earn his redemption. He gets caught because his powers stop working and the school calls his mother Giovanna. Does she yell at him? No, she says "What were you thinking? I mean, girls like to go step by step. Taking your clothes off is the last thing you do." Ah, so if he hadn't been naked, he would be innocent?! She then says "OK, let's go buy some food. Do you want roasted chicken and french fries?" You think he deserves a reward?! He says he's not very hungry, she says "Let's have some beers?" and they both laugh. Yeah, it's toooootally an appropriate moment to tell a joke! She also says "It's a miracle they didn't suspend you." No, it's because you're a cop, so he can get away with anything! Michele only apologizes about "peeping from inside" to Stella, but not the other girls. Well, maybe he's apologizing for recording her. It's not made clear because she immediately tells him that it's not a big deal. Look, in real life, the girls wouldn't make him pay for this every day of his life, but they also wouldn't forget about it after a couple of days. Stella "meets" Michele when he's invisible, thinks he's some kind of ghost, and has a friendly conversation with him. In another scene, they chat for the second time... and she kisses him?! I think screenwriters Alessandro Fabbri, Ludovica Rampoldi and Stefano Sardo skipped a couple of scenes. I know the idea is to show how 2 people can connect on an emotional level without seeing each other, but there wasn't even enough time for that. Speaking of rushing things, Michele gets angry at Giovanna for washing (and ruining) his super suit and he yells "I hate you!" Boy, that escalated quickly! Back to the main subject. Eventually, Stella finds out that the ghost is Michele, she's happy about it and they kiss again. Why am I focusing on all this when it's not what the story is really about? Because this is supposed to be the good ole "A loveable loser becomes a superhero" formula (they even throw in a pair of bullies that Michele stands up to at the end), but he doesn't come off that way. I'm not saying he can't have personality flaws, but they have to be acknowledged.
What kind of message for young viewers (of both sexes) is this?! That being said, the performances are decent and the visual effects are pretty good for a production outside the U.S.4/10

Andrej sacrifices himself to kill Yelena. Yes, Michele sees his birth parents die not long after seeing his adoptive mother die. That should mess him up more than before, right? No, because it would've gotten in the way of the happy ending. At the end of the previous installment, Andrej erased people's memories, so they wouldn't remember Michele's other identity, but Stella still managed to notice similarities between Michele and the title character, hinting that she'll figure it out soon. What I'm about to say defies all logic, so try keeping up with me. Brando Volpi (the bully) started telling their classmates that he's the one who saved Stella, who starts going out with him. Well, so much for the deep connection that would've allowed her to see past the lie! She doesn't even notice the difference in their voices?! And why did Brando wait 3 years to lie?! And why did everyone else think the real hero would wait 3 years to reveal himself?! What exactly happened between Michele & Stella during this long time gap that prevented them from going out and prevented her from discovering the truth?! In case you're wondering, yes, she does discover it eventually (again!). Even though more time has passed and therefore the revelation should hit harder, both characters treat the situation with a lot less seriousness than before. I'm not sure why Stella is even in this movie. She doesn't serve a real purpose. Not every story needs a love interest. Sure, the villains kidnap her, but they also kidnap Candela (Michele's sister figure), so that would've been enough motivation for him. Speaking of, what do those girls say when they're asked why they didn't arrive at their destination? Unlike the 1st movie, there's no real evidence of a kidnap.
