The Exorcist immediately comes to mind. In particular, the scene with Chris and Juror #3 before the shit really hits the fan. It’s almost unnervingly quiet.
Other mentions -
The creative and manic energy Sam Raimi brought to Evil Dead 2. Without it, probably wouldn’t be talking about the movie today.
Alien - Definitely one of the best paced.

I agree but The Golden Raspberry's would disagree.

The Shining A Nightmare on Elm Street The Evil Dead Hellraiser Eraserhead It’s always really impressed me how well The Evil Dead turned out considering how young Raimi was, the almost nonexistent budget, and the supposedly terrible conditions at the cabin. Raimi puts on an incredible show, though.

I've seen many listed here already that I agree with, so I won't re-list them. A couple that I haven't seen that I'll throw in the mix are Jaws and The Omen (1976).

Phenomena (1985), Road Games (1981), The Howling (1981), Phantasm (1979), The Hitcher (1986) and Near Dark (1987), are among those I can think of, right now. Beautiful, gruesome, explosive, creative and very memorable horror movies, which still have scenes and shots, that amazes me, thinking of how well done, they still look, compared to so many other movies I have seen.
