Dr. Strangeglove 6/10 mildly amusing The Killing 4/10 pretty hard to stay awake through, but a bit of atmosphere helps it The Godfather 1/10 total waste just to glorify mobsters as demi gods that can't be beat. Strictly for the sheep
Didn't see the long good bye.

I'm going about this in a different way; not the best movie but the movie that served him best.
Dr. Strangelove Right up there with Anthony Perkins as the one of the great psychos of the sixties.
The Killing Not on everyone's best list of Kubrick features but I like it a lot and finally acquired a copy some time ago. Hayden dominates every scene.
The Godfather His presence is jarring as the only recognizable major star from the Classic era in a cast of unknowns (Brando excepted, of course). Not sure why Coppola hired him. He has only two key scenes, so the movie doesn't belong to him, which is why I've placed it third.
Haven't see The Long Goodbye
That said, Hayden is not my favorite actor. I find no humor in his performances, although I won't refuse a film just because he is in it. In addition to those named in this thread, check out The Last Command (1955), a pretty good version of The Alamo. It was on Youtube some time ago; may still be.
