Well, it's his decision after all. Gonna miss him greatly, though. Hopefully he is able to find purpose after his filmmaking career.

Yeah, go out on a high note. Ridley Scott, for example, hasn’t made a good movie in years.

If he's going to retire I wish he'd just retire and stop talking about retiring, but regardless the retirement talk is stupid. He's been in the business now for 30 years and has 10 films to show for it. His career is not inhibiting him from doing any boutique interest he has. He said he would quit and open a movie theater, well he's owned the New Beverly for a few years already, he said he'd quit when he gets married, well he's been married now for a few years. What else does he need to do that will be inhibited by a filmmaking career? He can have kids, write books, put on stage versions of Hateful Eight and become a film critic and still make movies at the pace he does now. And honestly, at this point it seems unlikely he's ever going to make a movie that is universally panned. He's never sank lower than 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, and that was for Death Proof, a movie that is arguably intended to be bad.

Hope he doesn’t quit, he’s one of the few bright spots in mainstream American film nowadays. His films are always a day one must see for me which is pretty much an exclusive list of one.
I preordered his “novelization” of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood so i suppose he’s been busy with that recently.

He finally got that done? Nice, I'm gonna have to look into it.

There are 7-8 higher notes he could have gone out on than OUaTiH. I think he's got a better film left in him.

I want him to make more movies, but I also think he's a great writer; I think he could write some exciting novels, or books about cinema history, if he so desired.

Well i guess he at least picked the right time. Considering theater might be going away. Because then, if wanted to still direct then he could only at the most make made for television films. And that would suck cuz he only makes R rated ones. Because that would be the only way he could continue, because you can only have films in either the theaters or on television.

Well, something like that suggests he'll still make his 'final' 10th movie, yet we may be waiting another 20 years for it.

Yeah, go out on a high note. Ridley Scott, for example, hasn’t made a good movie in years. Not a fan of The Martian? I think most people would consider that going out on a high note, if he had decided to make that his last movie. Granted that movie was 6 years ago, but he has only directed 2 movies since then. Here's hoping House of Gucci and The Last Duel are good. I do think All the Money In the World is a good movie too, but not the level of a movie I would want him to end his career on.

Ridley still has that upcoming movie with Al Pacino, Adam Driver, Lady Gaga, etc.
