Yeah, I don't get it either. Solid flick but bad title.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Solid flick but bad title. I think it was a marketing trick. One of the trucks in the movie is called Sorcerer though, so they didn't falsely advertise.

This was Friedkin's next theatrical feature four years after his megahit The Exorcist. At the time it looked like he was making another supernatural thriller and I'm sure it initially pulled a lot of people in (me included). The film died a quick death when Star Wars sucked all the oxy out of the universe a couple of months later. The IMDB trivia page has fascinating info about the making of the movie and how Friedkin was a terror to his actors and crew.
I saw it some months back, for the first time since 1977. It's a pretty good movie, but nowhere near the original French version.

I don't recall seeing any reservoirs or dogs in Reservoir Dogs either.

I remember a Friedkin interview where he said the Sorcerer was fate or something, and that it's a movie about the mystery of fate.

I don't recall seeing any reservoirs or dogs in Reservoir Dogs either. Supposedly reservoir dog is a slang term for an undercover cop. Origin comes from the great size of rats living in and around reservoirs.
