First Time Viewing: The Goldfinch (2019; John Crowley) - Fine production values and great cinematography, but the decision to the tell the story in a non-linear way hurts the movie. Ansel Elgort is rather wooden as the lead, but Nicole Kidman and Jeffrey Wright are excellent. 5/10 The New Kids (1985; Sean S. Cunningham) - Unoriginal but gripping exploitation thriller. 6/10 The Red Violin (1999; Francois Girard) - I've been intrigued by the story of this movie ever since I first heard about it, yet it took me over two decades to finally watch it. It tells the tale of a cursed violin over several centuries. Sadly I found it all rather dull and the various characters remained quite bland. A waste of potential. 4/10. Snow White: A Tale Of Terror (1997; Michael Cohn) - A horror re-telling of the famous fairy tale. Due to some creative differences between director and studio this was denied a theatrical release and ended up a financial flop. It's a weird movie, too mild for horror fans but too disturbing for a family film. Sigourney Weaver is great as the wicked stepmother though and it has some intesting touches. 6.5/10 Storyville (1992; Mark Frost) - Twin Peaks co-creator Frost tried to repeat the series magic formula with this thriller, but despite a great New Orleans setting and a superb Carter Burwell score I found this too cryptic and unengaging. 4.5/10 Repeat Viewing: Nothing this week Hello Raven. Just one of yours this week: The Red Violin (1999; Francois Girard) 7/10

Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your host (me) posts my weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. I will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film. FIRST TIME MOVIE VIEWINGScandal Sheet (1952, Phil Karlson)A very fun and exciting film noir, recommended. 7/10Lawman (1971, Michael Winner)Revisionist western with a classic cast featuring Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, Lee J Cobb and Robert Duvall. Some pacing issues but a solid effort all the same. 6-6.5/10The Last of Sheila (1973, Herbert Ross)This is a murder mystery with an all star cast. It is a little patchy over all but has some good stretches however it is a little over complicated and convoluted. Still, it’s worth a watch. 6/10Meek’s Cutoff (2010, Kelly Reinhardt)This film shows realistically the hardships of travelling across the old west but is not all that entertaining. 5/10REPEAT MOVIE VIEWINGRobocop (1987, Paul Verhoeven)blu rayA classic satire with violence and mayhem. Well made and still a blast. 8.5/10Celebrity (1998, Woody Allen) blu rayThis held up and then some since my last viewing. Great black and white film with a superb cast and a lot of fun scenes. Really well paced and an underrated film from the prolific director. 7.5/103:10 to Yuma (2007, James Mangold) UHD DiscQuality remake of a classic western that is well made and ramps up the action set pieces without losing the heart of the story. 7.5/10Rumble Fish (1983, Frances Ford Coppola) blu rayA very stylistic black and white film interpretation of the Hinton novel. 7/10Jungle Fever (1991, Spike Lee) blu rayA good film about race relations that might be too drawn out with too much dead space. Still entertaining in spurts with some great monologues. 6/10FIRST TIME DOCUMENTARY VIEWINGFraming John DeLorean (2019, Don Argott) NetflixStory of John DeLorean intercut with recreations starring Alec Baldwin as John DeLorean. Solid filmBlack Holes: The Edge of All we Know (2020, Peter Galison) NetflixInteresting documentary about the race to capture the first image of a black hole. Solid FilmREPEAT TV VIEWINGSeinfeld (1992, Season Four) DVD An all time great show and one of their best seasons if not the best. Superior TVWEEKLY FILM AWARDSBEST FILM: Robocop BEST ACTOR: Matt Dillon - Rumbke Fish BEST ACTRESS: Judy Davis - Celebrity BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Mickey Rourke - Rumble Fish BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Winona Ryder - Celebrity BEST EDITING: Frank J. Urioste - Robocop BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Stephen H. burhum - Rumble Fish BEST SCRIPT: Edward Neumeier - Robocop BEST SCORE: Basil Poldouris - Robocop BEST DIRECTOR: Paul Verhoeven - Robocop 10/10 - Perfection (or as close to it as possible) 09/10 - An Excellent film 08/10 - A VERY Good film 07/10 - A Good film 06/10 - A Solid film 05/10 - An Average film 04/10 - Below Average film 03/10 - A mostly bad film 02/10 - A mostly terrible film 01/10 - Awful through and through 00/10 - Not only awful but offensive too Hi Dark. Here I am. I don't know much about Scandal Sheet, but I'll check it out, I like Phil Karlson. I've been meaning to check out The Last of Sheila. Yours: Lawman 7.5/10 Yeah, I enjoyed it. I remember the ending being pretty dark. Robocop 9/10 Yep. Classic. Celebrity 8/10 Haven't seen it in a while. I remember liking it. 3:10 to Yuma (2007) 8/10 Yep, I liked it. Maybe I slightly prefer the original. Rumble Fish 8.5/10 Love it. Visually, it's really beautiful. Mickey Rourke is so great. Iconic, IMO. Jungle Fever 8/10 I haven't seen it in ages, but I remember liking it. Mine: Tremors 7.5/10 It's a horror movie with Kevin Bacon, it's about giant worms who live underground and start attacking and eating people in a smal town in the desert. It's fun, it holds up well to me. The effects too, they're pretty great. There's Fred Ward too in it. The White Sheik 8/10 It's Federico Fellini movie, it was his first I think, with Alberto Sordi. It's about a newly wed couple, on a honeymoon in Rome, but she's actually not sure about the wedding, and she's there mostly to meet the star of a photo novel she's a big fan of. I liked it, it's really sweet and charming. There's Giulietta Masina in kind of a small-ish role, she's really great. The cast is good, in general. I liked the lead actress, Brunella Novo, too. The Collector 8/10 It's a William Wyler movie, with Terence Stamp and Samantha Eggar. It's about a man who kidnaps a girl, and keeps her prisoner in his house in the countryside in England. It's really good, I like it, the ending is really dark. Loved both Terence Stamp and Samantha Eggar.

I saw part 2 on vhs when it first came out, seemed like a good enough sequel at the time. Cant vouch for any other sequel but from what I’ve heard and the way things usually go, sounds like diminishing returns. Maybe Will has seen some

I always assumed they were not very good, more like straight-to-video stuff.

Yeah. Haven't seen the sequels, I think they were mostly straight to video stuff. The first one is definitely worth watching, IMO.
