Discuss today’s games here
Decent slate of afternoon games, including the Fishies trying to avoid the sweep against the Cards.

Marlins literally have one of the worst lineups I’ve ever seen for today’s game - a bunch of backups and nobodies out there today. Pathetic.

Nothing to fear! deGrom is good for an RBI or two every game. He's absolutely amazing. Wasn't deGrom a later draft pick? How was he considered as a prospect versus Harvey, Syndegaard, etc? He was basically an afterthought of that group. It was Harvey, Syndergaard, Matz and even Rafael Montero ahead of him, then deGrom was just some guy. To be honest, when he first came up, we hadn't heard too much about him. As Goodman pointed out, he is a converted shortstop and his minor league numbers are just kinda fine. Of course, he won Rookie of the Year in 2014, then in 2015 he dazzled by striking out the side in his one inning in the All Star Game on 10 pitches. In the playoffs, he really showed what he could be by getting 2 wins in the NLDS against the Dodgers, including Game 5 in LA when he clearly didn't have his best stuff, but gutted out 6 tough innings against a talented Dodger lineup en route to a 3-2 series clinching win. Yeah man, I can wax poetic about how good he is and the writers love to conjure up crazy stats, but just watching him pitch tells you everything you need to know. 3 plus pitches with the same release point and the same arm slot, and that doesn't include his curveball which he rarely throws but is also excellent. He's throwing 101 with ease with pinpoint accuracy and late break, his slider is 92/93 and just sails away from the batter. His changeup is making All-Stars look like AA players. He is making in-game adjustments, he plays his position extremely well, he busts it down the line on groundouts, he's just a joy to watch. Any baseball fan should make it a point to see him in person when he comes to town.

I was also in a movie craze that year too. The first time I heard of deGrom was they announced him ROY. I am not kidding. I don't know how I missed that. I don't remember hearing about him anywhere on radio. Even after the ROY, he was still not the talk of town. Harvey was, and Thor was when he came up middle of 2015. Even Wheeler who was hurt that in 2015 seemed to be mentioned more than deGrom. I think you got to consider him for MVP this year.

I'd love nothing more than for deGrom to win the MVP but for that to happen, he has to stay healthy and hit at least 180ish innings, plus the Mets have to hold on and reach the playoffs. Oh yeah, he also needs to continue to dominate and while he is certainly capable of maintaining his spot as far-and-away the best pitcher in baseball (which is true), I can't really see how it's humanly possible for him to continue what he's done thus far this year. The argument is always that a pitcher shouldn't win MVP unless there's no other frontrunner on the position player side. deGrom only helps his team win every 5 days. If he stays healthy and doesn't miss any more time, I could certainly see it, but if the season ended today, it would have to be Tatis. Even Kris Bryant would have a better case given what he has done and how well the Cubs have played. The argument for deGrom is that when he is playing, the Mets ARE the best team. Tough to be more valuable than that. But that's my objective view. As a Met fan, I say fuck everyone else and give deGrom the trophy. Yeah!! Let's go Mets!!!

Fernando Tatis just hit a ball that achieved low Earth orbit in Colorado. Will the Tatis for James Shields trade be one of the five worst in history? Big Game James was 16-35 for the White Sox. Barring injury, trade or free agency Tatis will be an icon, rivaling Tony Gwynn as the face of the Padres (and that's a tall order). Fucking guy isn't even 23 years old. And imagine the Pale Hose with Tatis at short. Gaaaa! Move Tim Anderson to 2nd and that's a terrifying infield with Joe Abreu at 1st and Eloy Jimenez at 3rd.
Fun to watch these children play, Tatis, Ron Acuna, Juan Soto, Vlad Guerrero, Rafael Devers...

When I first heard that nickname, I thought he was not even that big game when he was with the Rays.

Predictably, the Marlins get shut out and lose 1-0, a fantastic outing from Alcantara wasted by an awful lineup. The season has slipped away from the Fishies and they need to turn things around fast if they want to salvage an okay season.

Royals get swept by the Tigers, Royals are in a free fall, they had a good start to the season but they are sucking massively now.
