Early reactions are always super positive. I remember early reactions for both The Phantom Menace and Force Awakens were over the top positive.

I hope this movie is good, at the very least I"m pretty sure it's decent. But if it turns out to be a bad film, I have a feeling critics will be too afraid to actually give it a rotten rating. I mean, they gave Birds of Prey and Captain Marvel a fresher rating than Thor....

Yeah but that was Wonder Woman's 2nd movie. Had that been the first Wonder Woman movie then I'm pretty sure it would never have been rated that low. There would have been way too much buzz riding on it that critics would have been pressured to look on it favorably. Both Birds of Prey and Captain Marvel were the first solo outings of their respective leads, as is Black Widow.

I guess that's true. Movies setting a high bar will be bound to have disappointments along the way. IDK, I didn't mind Birds of Prey that much and prefer it over WW84 personally. WW84 was just far more disappointing, where BOP delivered what I pretty much expected. It also probably didn't help that I first saw BOP in the theatre and WW84 at home, where I notice problems a lot more.

I generally dislike legacy characters, but this is one situation where I hope Florence Plugh continues play Black Widow in future MCU movies. |
