He was great. He was only 68 years old when he died. He still had a lot to give.

Sure, and I miss voiceover in trailers in general. It seems like every fucking trailer now is exactly the same.

Sort of. Action movies back then were cheesy and fun so an authoritative voice-over gave the context some seriousness. By the 2010s, blockbusters took themselves quite seriously that it didn't need a voice-over. Still, there's an art to it that's missed and although it's a cliché, I don't get tired of hearing the words "In a world..."

I actually do miss it. However, I think they work best for particular types of movies. Action films, rom cons, etc. If you’re going for something more serious I don’t think the VO is needed.

Trailers were way more fun to watch back then. So yes. However, LaFontaine wasn't the only game in town. Adolph Caesar had a pretty great trailer voice:

I miss strong voices in film in general.
Everything is so mild now.
